At special moments, a sparkling rain of dreams, desires and fantasies falls on the desert of everyday life. "Weisser Regen" - the new album from "Schattenkinder" - tries to musically capture these moments. The result is a romantic, melancholic and surreal journey through emotional worlds of the five musician’s very different personalities. As such the hearer encounters Helene, who is all-seeing but never heard by anybody, and learns through a music box dancer about her most secret wish and about the two lovers who know each other only in their dreams.
"Schattenkinder" is a Darkwave / Heavenly Voices band from Saxony that, in the current line-up, has existed since the beginning of 2003.
Besides Darkwave and Heavenly Voices the hearer will also recognize leanings toward Gothic, Neoclassic, Folk, Jazz and Trip-Hop.
Rooted in Dark Wave and Heavenly Voices Schattenkinder were launched 2001 by Reiner as a studio project. Vocalist Madeleine quickly joined as a second permanent member of the project and the duet made its first steps. Many line-up changes followed and the duet grew into a quintet. Since early 2003 Sven, Katja and Katharina have joined Schattenkinder. Inspired by new creativity the studio project progresses and exceeds its boundaries.
Both female lead singers, Katharina and Madeleine, enchant with their elf-like voices, when they in dream-like melodies sing of lost worlds and magical times. Founder and keyboard player Reiner surprises especially with intricate sounds and curious rhythms. Accompanying is Katja with classical violin and Chinese Erhu, with which she lends the songs a slightly oriental touch. Sven on electric guitar and bass provides the necessary drive. A characteristic of "Schattenkinder" is the romantically melancholic lyrics, through which the band discovers the Babel of languages.
In 2004, "Schattenkinder" released their debut album "Vision of Nightfall", which evokes listeners addicted to Gothic and medieval-like music.
In February 2008, "Weisser Regen" follows released under the label "Curzweyhl". For the recordings of the new album the band is supported by some guest musicians, e.g. Carsten Hundt, double bass player from the German Goth-Metal Band Adversus.
"Weisser Regen", in comparison to the debut album, comes across as more diverse and mature. On stage, the rather quiete but often surprising music of "Schattenkinder" is accompanied by an elaborately produced video background show.
