    schubertiad's Interests
GeneralI'm into Macs, music (playing, writing, and listening), photography, good food and good wine, beer (not watery American lager), fine tequilas and scotches, cocktails, Japan, mystery books, sunshine, blue skies, warm weather, the occasional viewing of good TV, poetry, art, design, creativity in general, kindness, cleverness, wit, grace, beauty, generosity of spirit, hope as a choice and a survival mechanism, 1-on-1 conversations, people who don't shout, humility, circumspection, introspection, skepticism (but not cynicism), finding peace in things small and big, receiving massages, going for long walks, working out (a little), petting our two fuzzy kids (feline), and just hanging out with my wife...
MusicI'm into the Smiths/Morrissey/Johnny Marr, the Moore Brothers (or pretty much any Thom Moore/Greg Moore stuff), Suede, Radiohead, Nick Drake, Syd Barrett, Coldplay (although X&Y leaves me a little cold), early-to-mid U2 (up to about Achtung Baby), Spitz, Luna Sea, the first few Brilliant Green albums, Every Little Thing (up to 4 Force), Tamaki Koji, Brian Wilson-era Beach Boys, Ozzy-era Sabbath, Crowded House/Neil Finn/Finn Brothers, Depeche Mode, Foo Fighters, Motorhead, Joy Division/New Order, Roth-era Van Halen, Neil Young, XTC, lots of 50s-60s classic jazz, and many, many "classical" composers.

TelevisionSurvivor, Amazing Race, Deadliest Catch, Iron Chef, various cooking/home design shows, Dotchi no Ryori Show, Mecha Mecha Iketeru!, Guru Guru 99, American Chopper, Dog, Mythbusters, The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, Countdown with Keith Olbermann, Extreme Makeover Home Edition (when they find a really deserving family), Simpsons, Futurama, Penn and Teller's Bullshit!...
BooksI like so many...but if I had to choose a few that I would have everybody in the world read, they would probably be Carl Sagan's "Demon Haunted World" and Michael Shermer's "Why People Believe Weird Things." Truly lights of reason to dispell the shadowy world of mystical thought.

I also just finished "Broken Trust" by Judge Sam King and Prof. Randy Roth (one of my professors, actually). In the book they lay bare the corruption, taint, cronyism, greed, hubris, and disregard for law involving the trustees of Bishop Estate (the largest charitable trust in the U.S.), the Hawaii Supreme Court, the Hawaii Legislature, and many members of the Hawaii legal community. It's a great read, with page after page of outrageous behavior documented for all to see. I recommend it to anyone interested in Hawaiian history, Hawaiian politics, trust law, ethics, or whatevah.
HeroesI have to give credit to a few folks who deserve it: Carl Sagan, Michael Shermer, The Amazing Randi, Richard Dawkins. Modern-day heroes of rational thought.

"Ticklin' The Strings" by Sweet Hollywaiians
Amazing Japanese hot string band playing 1920's, 30's, 40's style hawaiian, swing, calypso, blues, italian music and originals, featuring vintage instruments.3 songs with Robert Armstrong and Tony Marcus(from Robert Crumb and His Cheap Suit Serenaders)

"The Sweet Hollywaiians have probably the best feel for this 20's music of any string band working today. They manage the rare feat of sounding relaxed even when their playing is hot, are top notch musicians with tasteful arrangements and a full, rich, warm sound.Plus, they have a nice gamut of tunes, from King Nawahi to Giovanni Vicari to Bobby Leecan. See them live, if you can, for an unforgettable experience. If you can't, buy their Cds!" ~ Terry Zwigoff

Thanks for the add!

It is contended by many that ours is a Christian government, founded upon the Bible, and that all who look upon the book as false or foolish are destroying the foundation of our country. The truth is, our government is not founded upon the rights of gods, but upon the rights of men. Our Constitution was framed, not to declare and uphold the deity of Christ, but the sacredness of humanity. Ours is the first government made by the people and for the people. It is the only nation with which the gods have had nothing to do. And yet there are some judges dishonest and cowardly enough to solemnly decide that this is a Christian country, and that our free institutions are based upon the infamous laws of Jehovah.

“Luna Trick effectively marries many influences- think trip hop, glam goth, pre- Let's Dance Bowie, Nine Inch Nails industrial…” (Amazon)

“This CD is so full of interesting songs, musical diversity, and stunning imagery - it's hard to believe that it's the work of one guy.” (Amazon)

“This should appeal to people who like the new wave revival going on in alternative circles - or those that go for dark and dreamy.” (Amazon)

“…if you're looking for a CD that blends rock, funk, indie, and electronic, this is it.” (Amazon)

“At first listen, I fell for the NIN sound, and then I listened again finding threads of so many of my favorite bands like the Cure, David Bowie. This is old school new wave meshed with the best of today’s sounds.

Hey, what's up? I'm just dopping a quick note to let you know that I just published my first book of poetry. I would absolutely be honored if you got a copy--- for yourself, for a friend, or even just for the hell ot it :)

I hope you don't mind me posting this comment. If you do, feel free to delete it. I'm just passionate about anything I do in life and I really want my book to do well.

So if you're interested, you can click here for more details about the book. And be sure to drop by my page to read a poem or two if you'd like. My Top 25 poems are in my "about me" section.

Well, I hope all's well with you. Hit me up whenever. Peace.
