On March 22, the podcasting community made a statement with independent music. Check out all of the details at Bum Rush The Charts.
Influences
College radio, family, friends, Tommy Boy, People In Your Neighborhood, The Land of Make Believe, Donnie Darko, Drew Carey, the 4th dimension, The Meathead Olympics, UNIXPORT, Joe Damage, CRBA/ARBA, JMETS, EA Sports, our buddy Ralph, The Nu Zoo Revue, Monty Python, monkeys, Muppets, Jim Henson, Tim Henson, professional wrestling, BBQ, The Great Space Coaster, Red Dawn, Sesame Street, The Usual Suspects, and anything we've ever seen, heard, or done.
We are a dynamic podcasting trio (boB, Jerry, and Kevin) based out of Binghamton, NY. boB is an independent musician, Kevin is a tech nerd extraordinaire, and Jerry is just old. We've been hanging out for almost a decade now. Meeting once or twice a week for general debauchery and listening to music; you could call that practice for the Schwagast. We are the original shwagcast AudCast.
On the Schwagcast podcast, we play the very best independent and podsafe music that we can find from around the world.
What is "podsafe" music? Good question. Basically, it is just music that has been okayed by the individual bands (who still own exclusive rights to their music) to be played on a podcast. "Podsafe" is mainly just another way of saying "independent." You typically won't hear Three Doors Down on a podcast, but you will hear 3 Blind Mice.
What is a "podcast"? Another REALLY great question! You are just full of them today. In it's simplest form, a podcast is a publically accessible audio file that is syndicated on the Internet. This audio podcast file is packaged into a format that "podcatcher" clients use to automatically download the content for you so that you may listen to at your whim. You don't need no steekin' iPod to listen to a podcast! The word "podcast" is an unfortunate name. I like to call it Internet Moduled Audio Broadcasting, or IM AudCast.... though, the kind of podcast that we put out can more correctly be called an "OddCast."
You don't need to have an iPod to listen to a podcast. Did I say that already? Yeah-r, I did. All you really need is the computer you are using right now and speakers. If you happen to have a portable MP3 player, then you can take podcasts with you. Go ahead! All the cool kids are doing it!
For more information on this syndication and podcatching thing, check out the Schwagcast FAQ page at http://www.schwagcast.com/. Look for the "FAQ" link in the menu.
Subscribe for FREE to our syndicated feed at http://feeds.feedburner.com/schwagcast. Subscribers will automatically receive new audio content as soon as it is available.
If you don't have a podcatcher client, let me recommend one for you. For simplicity, try Apple's iTunes, but for a more robust client that won't leave you standing in the cold rain at the bus stop for hours on end, try NIMIQ. Some folks swear by the Juice client, but I find that it cuts off my downloads.

We may just use all or most of your message on an upcoming Schwagcast episode. Become part of the flawed entertainment.
Stop by for the music, but stick around for some of the most perfectly flawed entertainment on this side of the Internet.
Everyone who brings a cowbell gets some free cheese.
If you have an independent band and would like to be considered for inclusion on the Schwagcast, I'll need at least the following information:
Permission from the rights owner of the song to be played on the Schwagcast
A CD/LP or MP3/WAV file etc
contact me for postal address if you'd like to send in your submission via The Postal Service
album coverart or other suitable image to be included in my show notes as an anchor back to your site where my audience can purchase your tracks/albums
See Schwagcast.com for an example of how I will use this image
Other (optional) inputs:
a bumper to be included on the show
a vocal backstory/setup for the track to be featured
any announcement that you'd like mentioned on the podcast
If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me.
