Just me on me lonesome most of the time, but occasionally featuring the likes of Jer Levitsky, Greg the Hornablist, Beardyman, Dizraeli and Charlie Lewis.....
Influences
Everything I see, hear and do influences me in some way or another. Among those that inspire me most are my friends and musical colleagues- Dizraeli, Jer & Tom, Boxtree Collective, MekaSonic, The Scrub, Titan System, Dialectics, Beardyman and loads of others.
People you're more likely to have heard of include London Elektricity, Logistics, Nu-Tone, High Contrast, Visionary, Herbie Hancock, Jaco Pastorius,
Portishead, Amon Tobin, Fingathing and about a zillion other creators of wicked music...
SORRY - THIS PAGE IS MASSIVELY OUT OF DATE (I'M 27 NOW SO...). I'M GONNA UPDATE IT SOON, HONEST!!!!
Scifax (or 'Alex' as his mum calls him...) is a 24 year old producer, DJ, and musician living on the sunny (yeah whatever...) South coast of England. Raised in Bristol on a diet of hip-hop and heavy metal, I started playing the Bass guitar aged 10, after dabbling with a green clarinet and struggling to get any sound out of a saxophone! Not long after, I started learning the guitar, but then realised that everyone and their mum is a guitarist, so its better to stick to bass. Everyone and their mum is a DJ too though, but after I got into d'n'b in about '98 I decided to get some decks anyway, just for the hell of it. Then I learnt to mix, then scratch. I now also play tenor sax, a bit of keys, and spend hours gazing at a computer screen making tunes.
My background as a musician means that I tend to focus on the musical aspects of my production, and even the harder tunes I produce tend to have musical structures with a lot of focus on chords and melodies, rather than just trying to make the filthiest, most ear wrenching sounds possible. Not that there's anything wrong with filthy, ear-wrenching sounds. They have their place....
I also like to use real instruments where I can, so I play a lot of the parts on my tracks, or enlist the help of my musical compadres- Jer Levitsky features on the guitar on 'Eyes Forward', and the sax on 'Binary Soul' was supplied by an excellent French sax player called Greg. Both these tunes will soon have their sythetic sounding string parts replaced by real violin and cello (thanks to Charlie Lewis).
I am also working on a project, tentatively called 'Wiretribe', with Ali RTF, which seems to be leaning towards the heavier end of the spectrum at the moment. We will be putting some tracks online soon. Also look out for collaborations between myself and machine-gun-tongued beatboxer Beardyman (if we can stop telling crap jokes and giggling like little girls for long enough to actually finish the tune we're working on).
Finally, I'd like to do a little plug for my band. We play hip-hop with a dubby, jazzy funky edge and I like to think we're fairly good! Please check out www.myspace.com/badscience and see if you agree!
Incidentally, I don't really listen to heavy metal any more.
KING PORTER STOMP with TIN ROOTS @ THE BRUNSWICK, SAT DEC 12TH.
We're very happy indeed to have been invited back to play a Christmas show at the Brunswick. We're gonna be joined by our festival friends and wicked roots reggae groovers, Tin Roots, so expect a whole lotta skanking and stomping around with the odd mince pie chucked in.
We'll be fresh from our South West mini tour and it'll be the last chance to catch us play before we go into hibernation to record our new album at the beginning of the new year...we may even give you a sneaky taster of what's in store...it's gonna be fat and funky for sure. We're planning knocking 2009 on the head with a bang so please come down and experience us burning off all the calories we've got and lifting the roof in a proper stomping party stylee.
It's hopefully gonna be rammed so please get your tickets in advance to avoid disappointment, and they're cheaper!
We don't normally do this but one of our favourite acts are coming to town tommorrow and we just want to let you know what not to miss.
Smerins Anti-Social Club will be playing at Hector's House this Saturday night 7th Nov!

Cheers for that guys, hope all's well in your world. The next time you can catch King Porter Stomp in Brighton is Sat Dec 12th when we'll be playing at the Brunswick with the fantastic Tin Roots.

Drink vast quantities of local cider, hang out with the farm creatures and listen to the best bands in the south east! It's £7.50 per day and well worth it!
LINE - UP.... SATURDAY 12pm The Magic number... 1pm Boys in the wood... 2pm The Resonators... 3pm Django Spears... 4pm King Porter Stomp... SUNDAY 12pm Peanut Albinos... 1pm The Curst Sons... 2pm The Anteaters... 3pm Shofar Allstars... 4pm Kalakuta Millionaires...
