In the six years that Anna has been writing, she has had hundreds of articles published in over 20 different magazines and websites. Her writing has appeared in publications such as TOUCH, Big Smoke, Asian Woman, Time Out, the daily Mirror, g3 and Out in the City, as well as on allhiphop.com, britishhiphop.co.uk, rapnews.co.uk, subba-cultcha.com, ukhh.com and Record of the Day.
From a young age, Anna has always had a passion for black music. She has been lucky enough to have interviewed many established overseas musicians including Afrika Bambaataa, Ziggy Marley, Common, T-Pain, The Game, ?uestlove, Musiq Soulchild, DJ Little Louie Vega and Kelly Rowland, to name a few.
Anna also supports the UK music scene, and has interviewed artists such as Ty, Beverley Knight, Skinnyman, Omar, Klashnekoff, Sway, Sincere and Estelle.
Anna is News Editor and contributor at Big Smoke Magazine and runs the hip hop blog, www.bigsmokelive.blogspot.com
As well as writing about music, Anna has covered a vast variety of topics in her work, including:
Life in local authority care,
Gun crime in London,
Love and relationships,
Drugs,
Death,
Homophobia in ragga music,
Property,
Health and beauty,
Gang culture,
Horoscopes,
and the experience of growing up gay in the Asian community (for the internationally sold Asian Woman magazine).
Anna is also an experienced copy editor, starting out in this field on her University newspaper, and then going on to sub edit at the various magazines she has worked for.
Whilst still a student, Anna also worked as a music video assistant and documentary film maker at Backbone Music, making video diaries of the artists, for example at their shows, in the studio and in their homes.
Around this time, Anna also had a weekly show on her University radio station, playing a mix of home grown and overseas hip hop and RnB.
After leaving University, Anna returned to her hometown of London and embarked on an internship at TOUCH, one of the UK’s longest running magazines for urban music. Impressed with her drive and ambition, the editor soon offered her a permanent position of editing the infamous 411 Girls page, covering celebrity parties, events and concerts, as well as providing the hottest news from the scene. Anna did this for a year, at the same time building up a strong portfolio of work, which has continued to this day.
Anna also does some independent music PR and set up a company Mirage Music in January 2008. She recently did the press for the Baseline House track 'Take it to the Dancefloor' by the Peacemakaz ft Danielle Senior, as well the annual charity break dancing event Breakin' Boundaries '09. Prior to this, Anna worked at Fire Media UK headed up by Akosua Anobil-Dodo (Choice FM, New Nation newspaper, overground.com) and then Mojona Ltd, run by Suzy Zenouzi (entrepreneur who launched artists like Lupe Fiasco in the UK).
Anna is a member of the IBMCs collective, who collate, archive and promote international hip hop.
She has a passion for identifying and helping budding talent, and recently promoted The Hard Way album by rapper Frantic Frank, of influential South London group The Kraftsmen.
Anna has also worked with artists such as veteran UK rapper Blak Twang, drummer and producer Cassell the Beatmaker (who drums for Plan B and Akala), as well as singer/song writer Danielle Senior (whose most recent work includes collaborations with TQ, Mike City, Juelz Santana and 40 Cal of Dipset).
In the past Anna has worked as a Taste Maker for 3 Mobile, identifying and supplying some of the hottest tracks from the UK music scene, and getting them heard by the masses.
As well as having been on the in house editorial teams at TOUCH, g3 and Out in the City Magazines, Anna has also done internships at More! Magazine, Conde Nast Traveller Magazine, Chat Magazine, TOAST Press, ITV and Time Out London.
In 2007, she was also the regular music news provider for online super-site www.7digital.com.
Anna has many interests, including travelling, singing, poetry, going to live events and psychology.
