All of the above (in any particular order) . All this morphing into a sonically enhanced bassist exploring the multiverse with trancelike chants , dreamy melodies , deep meditations and virtuosic aspirations .
I've always been drawn to the otherworldly in music . Both a destination for the listener and an expression for the performer, music is a crystalization of the invisable world....
As a bassist,I was motivated towards the use of extended techniques and electronic effects from the beginning.. And, although I've had some very good teachers;(Kai Eckhardt,Benny Reitvald,Mel Graves..master classes with Steve Bailey,Victor Wooten,Bertram Turetsky,Jimmy Haslip and Steve Lawson.) I've applied almost everything they've taught me in a way that insures I toil in obscurity.
The force that defines me as an artist is my love of inner truth. After a Satori experience I had at 19, I've immersed myself in Tibetan Buddhism,Kashmir Shaivism, the Aperspectival world of Jean Gebser and the Diamond Approach of A.H.Almaas.(I teach the later)Most everything I compose has a meditative quality and I use various real time effects to "meditate" my music into being without having to use overdubs or "post-creation" processing.
What I'm most interested in is the spontaneous creation and expression of healing and illumined states of Being....and bass solos, lots of bass solos .You can't tell it's a bass most of the time. But, it is...
I've done session work, film scores, played in a number of world/fusion/jazz bands(most notably with Oscar winner THOTH)designed all of the basses I play and been replaced by Michael Manring (for a band of Alex Skolnick.)I love my family;Jaimila and Jaya..... And I and hope my work has some relevance for you..
I really dig what you do,..its amazing, relaxing, and trance like. Is there another site I can learn more about you and maybe those philosiphies you study/teach ?
