"As for the pentacle ... The idea is wholeness, the
number five represents that "many traditions; the fifth realm is the
realm of the divine father in Sethian gnosticism, Valentinian beliefs
have five sacraments for spiritual enlightenment, and there are five
tree of paradise in Manichaean belief, Islamic mysticism, and in the
Gospel of Thomas (gnosticism). Usually though, the pentacle is a Wiccan
symbol which to them, I believe, it means "mind over matter". That's
basically what it has always meant. Since it's a Pagan symbol (although
so was the cross before Christians adopted it), it is associated with
the devil and Satanism. Goethe used it in his Faust tales and Anton
LeVey, I believe, adopted it as a symbol in the church of Satan (except
there it was depicted upside down). But upside down or right side up
whatever, it has far more meaning end enlightened roots than popular
culture credits to it (Scott)."
