Scott Barkan is a guitar player and songwriter from the east who now lives in the west.
These recordings are samples from Scott's growing catalog of projects as a sideman, composer/arranger, band leader and all around guitar slinger. Hoping to work in as many genres as possible, Scott has recorded and toured with everything from rock/pop bands (Even Elroy), soulful songwriters (Kevin McCarthy), indie/pop crooners (Michael Jantz), to hard hitting rockers (Fortress of Attitude), instrumental jazz/fusion (Barky) and even bluegrass pickers (Hypnotic Clambake).
At only 29 years old, Scott has amazingly been playing for nearly two decades, and working as a professional guitarist for the better part of the latter. He was the only guitarist accepted into his freshman class at the prestigious Manhattan School of Music, but found the environment too stuffy and quickly transferred to the Conservatory of Music at Purchase College. There, he began to find his unique voice as a jazz guitarist, studying with legends Wayne Krantz and Kermit Driscoll.
After graduating, Scott spent the next few years establishing himself on the downtown New York jazz scene, along with his trio "Barky", and spent a good deal of his time touring the U.S. and abroad. Growing tired of the jazz scene, however, Scott decided to relocate to San Francisco in 2005, where he first began to explore the subtler aspects of applying his skills as a guitarist to work as a sideman with local songwriters. This lead to Scott's growing reputation as an in demand guitarist and his ultimate decision to head south to Los Angeles, where he lives today.
Scott's guitar playing and songwriting has been featured in film and television, including the hit shows "The Real World", "The Hills", "Human Giant", "Living with Lohan", "Keeping up with the Kardashians", "Parental Control" and "SKI Patrol". In addition, Scott recently wrote the title track for the independent feature film "See Dick Run", starring Kel Mitchell.
Scott is currently available for recording projects, local gigs, and tours throughout the U.S. and over seas. Please feel free to contact him here or at scottbarkan@hotmail.com
