Counting Crows, Matchbox Twenty, Carlos Santana, Jason Mraz, Gin Blossoms... Director, Joey Julius and I have been working very hard on the video for my song "Chorus Line." Now in post-production, we look forward to the release date being announced very soon. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy these shots from the video.
We have been getting reports that some folks are not always able to see these photos. This is a recurring problem with MYSPACE. We are working on making it behave. Patience shall be rewarded.
Never knew much about music until I was around 15, when I was introduced to Jeff Pescetto, a brilliant producer and now my close friend. Jeff was looking for a sort of male-Britney Spears type (she was the big thing, then) who didn’t have to have much talent, as long as they could look good on stage and entertain a crowd. He asked me if I wanted to try recording some pop songs he had written. I say, "I can’t sing." He says, "Don’t matter. I’ll make you sound good with editing." I say, "Okay, sure."
It didn’t work out too well. I hated how bubble-gum the songs sounded, plus I had zero talent in the singing department, so I couldn’t pull them off. But who was I to judge his songs? I didn’t know a thing about music. Eventually, he told me to try writing a song of my own and see if that worked out better.
I have no idea how, but I wrote one. He liked it. We recorded it.
I didn’t know how to read or write music, and I didn’t play any instruments, so I had to mimic the sounds of guitar or drum parts with my mouth in order to convey what the song should sound like. Jeff was patient, and intuitive. That got the ball rolling.
I wrote more songs, eventually learned guitar, and sound much less like a screeching tire when I sing now. I don’t consider myself a musician or a singer, though. I’m a songwriter. I just sing the songs I wrote because, well, I wrote them.
Hope you guys enjoy. It’s been fun for me. More to come.
