GOOD MUSIC, Good times, Bad times, Good people, bad people, and anything else. David Ryan Harris, Radiohead, Robert Johnson, Smokey Robinson, John Mayer, Eric Johnson, John Legend, too many...
Scott David Hartman was born (April 22, 1991) in Salina, Kansas to Larry and Mary Beth Hartman and is the third of three children. He attended Sacred Heart High School where he was actively involved in forensics, jazz band, choir and about any other activity he could wrap his hands around. He grew up listening to anything from classic rock to jazz to pop music, but it was not until the age of thirteen after hearing John Mayers' album Heavier Things that his infatuation for music and his inspiration for playing the guitar really began. Later that year, he picked up his first guitar, a Fender Stratocaster Squier Bullet Series. At the age of 15, after only two years of practice he started playing open mics and other venues in the area.
At 16, Hartman flew to Nashville, TN for a National Guitar Workshop and it was here he decided that although playing the guitar was his first passion, writing his own music was much more rewarding. He has been quoted, "It (songwriting) makes me absolutely high. I've never found and probably will never find another feeling like it." This feeling, Hartman explains, continues to guide his dream of becoming a professional singer-songwriter.
After Hartman arrived home from Nashville, he decided to quit his job at a local amusement park and start giving guitar lessons to anyone that wanted them. During his senior year after a break from high school and with the inspiration from his Music Director, Dr. Richard Koshgarian, he enrolled at Kansas Wesleyan University, a local college where he studied under the likes of Koshgarian, Professors Bill Tzeka, Ken Hakoda, and others. Hartman was studying, listening to and playing music everyday, sometimes even to the point where his ears pounded and his fingers bled. This was a stage in his life he has said, "(I) will never forget. Who I am today was born in those six months."
In the winter of 2009, on a whim, Hartman uploaded a cover of John Mayer's "The Hurt" to Youtube and after a good response from the online community, decided to make the videos a regular thing. To view these videos, go to: http://www.youtube.com/user/scottdavidhartman.
During the summer of 2009, Hartman traveled to Baltimore, MD, where he recorded "Dreamer", his first solo EP. This demo includes 4 original songs that are available on Itunes, CD Baby, Kunaki, and all other downloadable music sites.
Hartman is currently attending the Academy of Contemporary Music (similar to Berklee College of Music) in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. It is the first of its kind in the United States and there were only 161 students accepted out of the thousands that auditioned.
Keep a look out for this rising star.
