Heroes
My heroes include my parents and siblings for supporting all that I do, friends from military, college and political days for putting up with me, and anyone who treats their fellow man with kindness. BUT my heroes are also people who stand up for themselves and fight for a good cause...

About me: I've been fortunate to have wonderful family, friends and acquaintances throughout my life.
So far, my childhood, teenage years, young adulthood and early-30s have been great! 1 decade U.S. military service, 30 countries visited, college, a few scrapes and bruises, failures and successes along the way.
Good news occurred November 4, 2008, when northwest Reno voted 65% that I be their next District E, Washoe County School Board trustee. Such an honor! The assignment is:
* making education better,
* helping the youth,
* getting things accomplished,
* effective political leadership.
How cool is that? :-)
The FAMILY:
The men, from left to right, are stepdad, brother, stepbrother, brother in-law, dad, Scott. The women, from left to right, are mom, sister and niece, stepmom.
I had a great childhood, growing up in Oxnard, CA and living just 3 miles from the Pacific Ocean. Oxnard is famous for its strawberries and my neighborhood was surrounded by miles of strawberry fields, orchards and vegetable plots.
The great thing about living in warm year-round weather was all the outdoors adventure. Whether I was playing soccer or little league baseball, bodyboarding on 'gnarly' waves or riding my bike, life was good.
In 1994, at age 17, I joined the U.S. Army and became a paratrooper journalist. The next six years (1994-2000) was a whirlwind of travel, training, excitement and combat. My paratrooper units were constantly deploying to war-ravaged countries (Haiti, Bosnia, Kosovo) to restore order and bring aid to beleaguered peoples. We also trained with the militaries of many Allied nations (Tunisia, Panama, Germany, Uzbekistan). I left the military a man.
The highlight of my enlistment was being stationed in Northern Italy. The most memorable experience was the Kosovo War. In 1998-99, this 4,000-square mile corner of Serbia was ravaged by war and ethnic cleansing. When my unit parachuted into Kosovo, it looked like mini WW2 Europe - burnt villages, refugees, mass grave sites. NATO's role was to stop the killing and enforce the peace. We succeeded!
When I returned to Reno, NV in July 2000 it was amazing how much the community had changed. That Fall I enrolled at the University of Nevada and made many new friends. I studied journalism and graduated in 2004.
I had made up my mind to run for political office soon after graduation. The concept of public service was something I strongly believed in. My goal: change the world for the better.
The resulting 2006 Reno City Council campaign was a noble grassroots effort. I spoke against corruption and walked door-to-door to hear citizen concerns. I lost the election but received 21,000 votes (43%). In 2008 the citizens voted me into public office as Washoe County School Board trustee for District E (15,900 votes and 65%).
I am a very patient and thoughtful person but I like to 'go with the flow' whenever possible.
HOW TO: Simplify Your Social Media Routine
These days participating in social media such as Twitter, Facebook, blogging and more is required for any entrepreneur business, small or large.
But there’s so much info and chatter coming in through social media that it can overwhelm you and ruin your productivity....
Who I'd like to meet: Historical personalities I want to meet include the American Presidents, most of the world's great religious founders: Moses-Jesus-Mohammad-Buddha, military leaders like Sparta's King Leonidas, Alexander the Great and Napoleon, and the dude who stood in front of the Chinese tanks. I also want to meet Hitler in order to ask him WTF and "Why!?!" Who would you like to meet?
Congrats! Enjoy the next 5 months, and spoil yourselves silly! You'll never b able to do it again! Oh and start buying diapers wherever u see them on sale now, it will b a big help not having to buy them when the baby is here. U will have enough stuff to spend money on then.. Trust me! Oh and buy all sizes. My moms friend bought diapers before the baby came, and didn't have to buy them at all the first year and a half! I wish I woulda done that! You guys r gonna have sooo much fun! Congrats again, and go spoil the heck out of Brooke. Make this the best time of her life... My man made it the worst and I resent him for it I hate to say... And now my body says "you know what leads to pregnancy, your not doing that!" You don't want to b in that boat do you? Haha!
