For the Scott Harris Project, 2007 marked a year of remarkable accomplishments. “In Between a Memory and a Dream” was released independently as the band toured throughout the summer and fall promoting the new album while taking their live act to higher levels. By touring and playing shows with Lifehouse, Blues Traveler, Gin Blossoms, Sugar Ray, Ben Lee, Teddy Geiger, and Toots & the Maytals, the band took their sound to new and large audiences, winning over fans at every stop. 2008 will see the band both back in the studio and on the road as they look to build upon the momentum generated over the past year.
The New York-based foursome came together over three years ago when band leader, Scott Harris, teamed up with bassist Pat Castania. Drummer, Sal Giancarelli, was added soon thereafter and guitarist, Tyler Anselmo, cemented the group a year later. Busy playing shows and developing as a band, SHP spent the last year recording their album which was produced by Rob Guariglia, guitarist for The Veronicas and Ryan Shaw Band.
The creative force behind the band, Scott Harris, has been a well-known artist in the New York area since his teens. Scott began writing songs on the piano at the young age of five and soon graduated to the guitar. By college, Scott had developed a strong and loyal fan base.
“I write songs people can sing to,” says Scott. “I just try to have a good time with my music and I think that’s why people gravitate toward it.” Scott’s music is an eclectic mix of rock, pop, crafty lyrics and upbeat songs.
“We’re always told that our live show has a ton of energy,” says Scott. “On this album, we set out to capture that energy.”
“Live It Up” is a party anthem type of song. After learning of a local tragedy in which a group of friends passed away, Scott wrote this song for his closest friends. “It’s about living in the moment and taking advantage of life,” explains Scott. “Live It Up” is just the kind of song that captures the feel-good vibe of SHP.
Then there’s “Level” which is Scott’s version of a love song. “It’s just about being with the best girl possible. Someone who loves you for exactly who you are,” says Scott. With lyrics like “straight from the heart this time, girl in my world needs no pickup line… ask her how her day went, she wouldn’t beg for a compliment,” Scott describes the easy happiness of being with his ideal girl.
Scott and the rest of SHP have set out to create something fun and infectious. With plans to tour the country while promoting their independently released debut album, SHP will continue to write songs for the whole world to sing.
Scott, you need to give your manager a raise. I was at the Dallas concert and came in late and didn't get to hear you sing. However, your manager convinced me to buy your CD and now it's all I listen to. I love it and wish I could have heard you live. Good luck on your tour!
