The origin of the Atarians
Brothers, Scott and Blake, began playing together in the 90's and have been in two bands with Brian Tate (childhood pal), since that time. After a four year break (for college etc.) the group reassembled, wrote new material, and emerged with high school friend Ricky Underwood as SLA!
On the name
The act was originally known simply as “Scott Leftwich”, that vain bastard! Realizing the name wasn't marketable, the group decided to have some fun. The “________ and the ________” format had not been widely used in this type of music for quite some time, therefore it was unique, and it wasn’t too serious, which is representative of SLA's sense of humor. The Atarians came up (named after the Atari 2600 classic video game system’s late fanclub) and stuck.
