peckenpaugh's Blog

  • new blog site, free downloads

    Current mood:artistic

ever since myspace disabled downloads on the music players, i've been trying to figure out the best way(s) to make my music available over the internet.

i think i've finally figured it out.

i've started a new "real" blog, called "Perpetual Distraction":
    http://peckenpaugh.blog.com/

on that blog i can easily have a list of links to everything else i have on the internet, including individual links to free downloads of my songs on twiturm, which (obviously) is a twitter related site that i've just found and just begun using.

as of now, i only have one song available for download on twiturm ("Miss Your Sin": http://twiturm.com/6tq6), but i will be adding more over the next coupla days (weeks?). since each time i upload a song, it will be tweeted, i'd rather space them out over a while rather than having a whole bunch of song tweets all at once.

does this mean i will no longer be blogging on myspace? no.
(i know, i know... my blogs here have been rather sporadic anyway... planning to improve on that a bit with the new blog site.)

but Perpetual Distraction will be my main blog (tho there's barely anything up there yet...), and probably the hub of my internet presence. unless the blog is specifically myspace-related, it will likely be posted at PD first and then copy/pasted here, and/or on my personal myspace.

  • A Tribute to Les Paul

    Current mood:sad

    Les Paul (June 9, 1915 – August 13, 2009)

today we lost a great man, a true legend: Les Paul.

if you know who he is, i don't need to tell you anything. if you don't, fire up your google and read, listen to and watch as much as you can find about him. he essentially invented BOTH the electric guitar AND multitrack recording. with those two innovations alone, it is not difficult to argue that Les had more impact and influence on contemporary music than any other single person.

he was also an excellent guitarist in his own right, and had a wonderful and delightful sense of humor.

i heard the news of his passing during my lunch break and found myself feeling the loss more the way that i would mourn the passing of a close friend than of a "celebrity". if you know me, and the way i create music, you will not be surprised by that.

thank you, Les, for all that you gave us. i am grateful that you were with us for 94 years and sad that you are gone.

    R.I.P. (Rock in Peace)

  • Visit Chicago This Summer!

    Current mood:excited

i know some of you are thinking about visiting Chicago this summer. every week and every weekend there are plenty of fun things going on here, but here's a list of my favorite Chicago summer events (and links to more info about each). i'd recommend you try to plan your visit around one (or more) of them, altho any time in the summer is a great time in Chicago. be sure to let me know when you're coming so we can plan to get together. there are so many of you that i would love to meet and share my great city with you.

    June 26 - 28: Gay Pride Weekend:

there will be events going on all weekend, but of course, the main event is the parade, which starts at noon on Sunday, June 28 and kicks off right outside my front door.

June 26 - July 5: Taste of Chicago

there's no way to describe this event. lotsa food, lotsa beer, lotsa music and a whole bunch more, in the midst of downtown. i've been to it so many times that i don't always make it every year, but if you're coming to visit, i'll make a special point of taking you down there.

    new additional listing:
    JULY 2nd - EVIL BEAVER @ EMPTY BOTTLE (9:30pm; $8)
i just found out about this show. i'll still be going to the one in august [see below], but i'll probably try to make this one too.

    August 1- 2: Northalsted Marketdays

there's always at least one streetfair going on every weekend, but this one so blows away the rest of them, that some years it's the only one i go to. it runs along Halsted, from Addison to Belmont, right thru Boystown. and, like the parade, it's right outside my front door, so whenever i need a break, i can go back to my apartment, and then back out to the fair again. it may sound silly, but this fair is one of the main reasons i chose this apartment and why i've lived here for so long.

August 19: Evil Beaver at Double Door: FREE SHOW!

this is a wednesday night, but so what? it's a FREE show and it's EVIL BEAVER! as many of you know, they are one of my absolutely FAVORITE bands. i've already got several friends planning to go with me to this show, so if you can make it here in the middle of the week, let's make a major party out of it! [they're also playing at the Metro next friday, may 22, with Peaches, but that show is $20. i may go to that show too, but free always beats $20, even if it is Evil Beaver.]
  • where to find me on teh interwebz...

    Current mood:accomplished

i'm barely able to keep track of all the places i'm at on teh interwebz, so it must be impossible for you guys. i've put together this list to make it a little easier.

(my intention is to allow free downloads of my music for my friends and fans, but myspace downloads are currently disabled. you can, however, download (some of) my music for free at soundclick, or buy it at cdbaby.)

i'm sure i've forgotten some sites, and/or will add more, so i'll update this blog as appropriate.

    Soundclick:

you can download my songs for free at soundclick; you'll have to become a member, but it's easy and 100% free. as of now, i have only 3 songs available, cuz i'm a lazy procrastinator, but i'll get more up there, eventually...

    cdbaby:
    http://cdbaby.com/cd/peckenpaugh
at cdbaby, you can hear samples from all the songs on "Year of the Dog". you can also buy it there, either as a physical cd, or as a download. there are many other sites you can buy it from, but the lowest price for the physical cd is at cdbaby, because any other site has to buy it from cdbaby and add in their cut. (also, i receive the money from all cdbaby purchases almost immediately; from other sites, it may take a few months. but that's my problem, not yours. lol)
