InfluencesBeatles, Byrds, traditional early ‘60s folk music, Winter Hours, Marshall Crenshaw, Lloyd Cole, obsession, disappointment, unrequited love, loss, Rain Parade, Dreams So Real, Miracle Legion, Nick Drake, Simon & Garfunkel, Grant Lee Buffalo, Smiths, Richard Thompson, Kinks, Monkees, Uncle Tupelo, Pernice Brothers, Zombies, and...uhh...errrr...mmmm...oh yeah, REM
Sounds LikeHere’s what a few people have said about The Art Of Wasting Time:

“…mines ‘80s Southern jangle-pop to satisfying effect…” (Jeff Clark, Stomp & Stammer)

“…what a terrific record!…touches upon classic mid-’80s janglepop and psychedelia (a la Rain Parade, Dreams So Real, Miracle Legion)--not to mention a killer version of The Beatles‘ “I’ll Be Back”…” (Fred Mills, Stomp & Stammer)

“…I really like the songs…it certainly brought me back…you guys have your own sound which is good…” (Michael Carlucci, Winter Hours)

“…a breezy recording that, knowingly or not, transfuses the sound of an era gone by with today's influences and makes for a decent listening experience. A CD that churns Alt. country, folk, and pop into a brisk new combination…One of the sheer joys for a reviewer is to hear something completely original, in all aspects and that is what Lost Weekend offers for your perusal. Just one more example of why Indie (independent) music deserves to be heard…” (Rikks Revues, online magazine)

“…like reuniting with a good friend again. Consistently good and comforting to the soul…(Don Gilliland, former owner & proprietor of Murmur Records)

   About Scott Roberts
Glad you asked. I was born and raised in Orlando, Florida. At age 4 I saw the Beatles on Ed Sullivan and knew from that moment that I wanted to play guitar and attempt to achieve a bowl-like haircut. Many years passed during which I attended school, played little league baseball, moved into various houses & apartments, joined and formed several bands, fell in love over & over again, wrote songs and developed an unnatural fear of green vegetables and moving vehicles.
In the fall of 1992, I decided to pursue a solo acoustic career, despite the objections of several club owners, booking agents, and record companies. In 1993, my first solo recording was released (the full-length, now out-of-print cassette, Boxer) followed by the six song cassette In Lieu of. . . in 1994. 1996 saw the release of my debut CD, Cakewalk, recorded in Athens, Georgia, home of my obvious musical doppelgangers--The Barbecue Killers (just kidding...I meant to say REM). Several years of soul-searching, drumming, and cross-tie walking ensued, culminating in 2004's reemergence of my late '80s incarnation, GrandDad (now called Lost Weekend). a long-standing & prolific musical collaboration with drummer and pessimist Mike Joswick. Our first CD, The Art Of Wasting Time, was met with both unanimous critical acclaim and rampant apathy (find out more at www.cdbaby.com/lostweekend).
2005 saw another tine explored in my musical fork--the formation of Last Chance Runaround (hear what we sound like at www.myspace.com/scottlinnroberts) with my death-defyingly optimistic best friend, harpist Sue Volkert (SueVo for short). Our goals for 2006 are to create beautiful & timeless music, to bring the music of Winter Hours to a larger audience, and to possibly get together for at least one rehearsal.
This site was supposed to coincide with the release of my career-retrospective boxset, entitled Heretofore, set to come out on 1/9/06, the 25th anniversary of my first official musical public offering (1981's Beat Your Family EP by The Degenerates). Unfortunately, various technical difficulties, legal entaglements, and terminal procrastination have all left this project in a proverbial state of limbo. Please stay tuned. Thank you for listening and reading.

Look for news, reviews, and other ramblings in the near future.

Thanks for stopping by the Blog, Dr. Roberts! I somehow can't erase the thought of you in a coconut bra...for better or worse. I'd have to say that 'Girl Don't Tell Me' is also one of my all-time favs, floating somewhere just below your own '7th Story Window'...that one gets me every time. It's about time we caught up, eh?
