Bassist/composer Scott Thornton has performed extensively throughout North America, Western and Eastern Europe, the Caribbean, and Russia on double bass and electric bass, as well as horn and trumpet. He performs regularly around the New York City area in large and small venues, from the Blue Note, Birdland, and the former CBGB's, to Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and the Kennedy Center. Scott has also done numerous recording engagements covering a wide range of styles including jazz, classical, world, blues, and pop/rock. - - - -
Scott's performing groups include The Scott Thornton Jazz Trio, Jazzmango, and the Scott Thornton Groove Trio. The Jazz Trio offers repertoire including the American standards, Latin, Modern Jazz, and original material. The Groove Trio is similar to the Jazz Trio but with a "groovy" inspired sound of Scott on Fender bass, reminiscent of the 60's and 70's. These trios are often augmented by other musicians to create larger ensemble textures. Jazzmango features guitarist John LaBarbera and percussionist Yousif Sheronick, performing Brazilian and Mediterranean inspired music. They were featured entertainment at last year's U.S. Open Tennis Tournament. In addition to his numerous jazz outlets, Scott also performs with the original acid folk/acoustic rock band Yucca Flats(Mapleshade/Wildchild Records), Ginetta's Vendetta, Riverside Orchestra, Orchestra of the Bronx, New Jersey Verismo Opera Orchestra, Artemis Chamber Ensemble, SEM Ensemble, etc. - as well as Off-Broadway Musicals: Wanda's World and Mud Donahue & Son.- - - - -

Scott was born and raised in Dickinson, North Dakota and is the youngest of six sibling musicians. Growing up in such a musical family was both the ignition and fuel for Scott's musical journey. He is forever grateful and indebted to each member of his family as mentors and role models. This musical family sprouted from the inspiration and instruction of their father, who was the high school band director, and their mother's persistence and dedication to their education. All of the Thorntons are still professionally involved in music performance and music education. Scott studied Horn Performance at the University of Iowa, earned a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from the University of Minnesota, and completed his Masters degree in Conducting from the University of Connecticut. Scott's free time is spent moonlighting as a tennis pro at Central Park Tennis Center in Manhattan.

I came here a stranger, As a stranger I depart. May favored me With many a bunch of flowers. The girl spoke of love, Her mother even of marriage - Now the world is so gloomy, The road shrouded in snow.
I cannot choose the time To begin my journey, Must find my own way In this darkness. A shadow of the moon travels With me as my companion, And upon the white fields I seek the deer's track.
Why should I stay here any longer So that people can drive me away ? Let stray dogs howl In front of their master's house; Love loves to wander - God made it that way - From one to the other, My dearest, good night !
I don't want to disturb your dreaming, It would be a shame to wake you. You won't hear my step, Softly, softly the door closes ! I write in passing On your gate: Good night, So that you may see That I thought of you.
Hi!Scott**Welcome to my myspace**It is for the people who love and enjoy listening to others sing or play beautiful music. Thank you for being here your friend Reggie
"I never tried to prove nothing, just wanted to give a good show. My life has always been my music, it's always come first, but the music ain't worth nothing if you can't lay it on the public. The main thing is to live for that audience, 'cause what you're there for is to please the people." -- Luis Armstrong
"My attitude is never to be satisfied, never enough, never." -- Duke Ellington
