Gone solo lately, but have also had the pleasure recently of taking the stage with many great friends, from the Barrington Coffeehouse scene, such as Dave Anderson (voc/gtr), Brian Lucianna (voc/bas), Russ Edwards (voc/gtr/hrp), Terry Rivel (voc/gtr), Will Blair (voc/gtr/drm), Rob Whitekettle (voc/gtr), Gerry Thompson (voc/tenor cigarbox gtr), Pat Miraflor (voc/gtr), Tim "TJ" (sax/kyb/bas), Rusty & Jan (Mr.Crowell - voc/gtr, Ms. Alba - voc/flt) and youngman blues prodigy Johnny "Jon Jon" Elliott (voc/gtr/hrp). I also had a blast, singing from the drum stool, with my last band, the hard rockin' "trifmueller" with TJ, other brother Brett (voc/bas) and first cousin Lou Mueller (voc/gtr).
[thanks folks]
Influences
Ray Davies, The Who, Ray Charles, The Bonzo Dog Band, Frank Zappa, Captain Beefheart, Roy Wood (The Move/ELO/Wizzard), The Clash, Chuck Berry, Nick Drake, Jeff Buckley, Deavid Allen & GONG, Robert Wyatt, Dave Edmunds, Pink Floyd, The Everly Brothers, Bowie w/Ronson, Wilson Pickett (or better yet, Richie Bellina), Bob Marley, Richard Thompson (& heck, Russ Edwards and Gerry Thompson too), Marvin Gaye, Byrds, Beatles & Stones.
Sounds Like
Like I failed at trying to stay away from the combined influences above...but I've heard from several different folks over time that the opening song from my debut recording sounded like the Grateful Dead, which sticks with me somehow. They're not bad (I've seen them a few times) but I never had any of their albums. [go figure...]
I've had an AR rep at Taxi note how much the band sounded like it was enjoying themselves on "Look What They Make Me Do" when mostly the entire album was over-dubbed by myself. This song was written and recorded on acoustic guitar and is accompanied by bass, drums, organ & 12 string guitar (my brother TJ did play the synth keypad parts). [don't leave me alone...]
So, if it's kinda different on ya... that's a good start!
Hello friends..My name is Scott Trif. I have been a long time supporter and participant in the local Philly music scene. I have been active in bands since I was a teenager..Currently, I am singer/songwriter and open mic host at the Barrington Coffeehouse in Barrington, New Jersey. Though you'll often find me with a guitar in my hand, I have also been known to play drums, piano, bass and even a cigar box guitar...
Not so long ago, released an album entitled Trif, Bad Side Showing. I can also be found on the Friends of the Barrington Coffeehouse CD which includes cuts from some of Philly locals finest..
I am also active in the fight against multiple sclerosis. I help organize, with a group of others, the Jersey Jam for MS. The JJ4MS is an annual summer concert which helps raise funds for the crippling effects of multiple sclerosis through music and the arts.
You can also find info on myself and future events at barringtoncoffeehouse.com
