About me:

ME is the net energy available to an animal from a certain food. ME is Maine, a state in New England. I am Scott VanRavenswaay. For over a decade now, I am more commonly known as ScottVR; "VR" is much shorter and easier than my actual last name, plus who ever heard of an 18-character unix login?

I'm a professional nerd - geek perhaps. Computers, networks - mostly in the Internet space and generally focusing on complex multi-tiered redundant systems for applications or infrastructure. Automating processes via software and creating redundancy with hardware and network topologies, reducing the need for humans and minimizing the risk of human failure is a favorite pastime of mine. I believe a common driving goal of one working in said capacity should be to automate one's self out of a job, confident that there will always be a bigger and more complex challenging opportunity waiting to be tackled when the present obstacles are cleared.

I'm also a music nerd. I front the band The Detached in my spare time, never really giving up that childhood goal of making millions as a rock star. I will either get rich with my music so I can automate humans out of existence with fault-tolerant distributed networked systems that will replace our every function in my plentiful spare time as a rich rock star or get rich as a computer nerd so I can make music for fun in my plentiful spare time as a retired, rich, eccentric geek.
