Scotty Lee Shuffield - guitar, ukulele, mountain dulcimer and vocals.
Sometimes a friend or two may join in...you never know who'll show up or what will happen!
Who knows - I may actually put a band together someday.
On the "Six String Sailor" CD Project, Scotty Lee was joined by "Toucan Don" Burke, Randy Langley and Diane Gentry ... thanks y'all, I couldn't have done it without you. Especially, "Toucan Don's" awesome production work.

“A man with a true heart of gold, "Scotty Lee is a country/folk singer and his songs can lean either way based on the delivery, but each lyric is rich with imagery and grounded in the ‘naked’ truth heard in so many Texas songs."
– MyTexasMusic.com “Featured Artist” notice - October 2003
"Shuffield, from Whitehouse, Texas, is a Parrothead favorite for his acoustic tales of life and love." – Tony Davis, Texarkana Gazette - June 2006
“If you have listened to the pure artistry of his songs, then you know what a Texas treasure he is.
… a long wait, but it’s been worth it.
… a founding member of Texas Music Nation and special to all of us.”
– Bodie & Donna Powell, Texas Music Nation Celebration brochure
“You know how much I love your music!!! It twangs that 'ol hippie chord in me.” – Donna Powell, songwriter, Fort Worth, TX
“Listening to your music reminds me why I love the Texas Music scene so much!” – Bodie Powell, singer-songwriter, Fort Worth, TX
“Shuffield’s unmistakable raspy voice wraps around and captures a passionate delivery of the composer’s interpretations.
… each lyric is rich with imagery and grounded in the ‘naked’ truth heard in so many Texas songs.
… great stories and a gruff but sincere delivery.” – Lucky & Jinelle Boyd, MyTexasMusic.com
“Scotty Lee makes me feel like he knows where I’ve been. The music has a way of picking me up and making me feel good. I can see the Sacramento Mountains, feel the ocean and I want to book a ride on the train to Mexico. The sound of the guitar makes it seem as if the music is just for me but with the words and the beat it's like he has a few hundred of his closest friends in for a jam session. I highly recommend this CD for the words and the music.”
– “SideShow Bob” Moyer, De Soto, TX
"I really like the quality of your voice and your pickin' is very clean. It all really brings back the days when I first came to Texas back in 1974. I have enjoyed hearing you each time I have seen you. You tell a good story and really bring places to mind. Thank you for the music. We'll see you around."
– James Michael Taylor, singer-songwriter, Fort Worth, TX
Scotty Lee, you got the songwriter's gift... real good! I also realize that you are a gifted guitarist... you are a true inspiration! Scotty Lee's done got me fired up with his new CD "Six String Sailor" which will be released soon. I have an advanced copy of this CD and can tell you "straight-up" ...it is excellent! - "Gumbo Ron" Bertrand, Trop Rock singer-songwriter, Creal Springs, Illinois
"As suggested on the "Texas Music In The Raw CD cover, I indulged in your psychosis and thoroughly enjoyed myself. I am a native Texan and you certainly hit home in your verses and songs. 'Kindred Spirits' makes me miss the festivals big and small, singing around the campfire beside the Guadalupe after a day of tubin', dancin' at Gruene Hall. 'Birthday Suit' is a lot of fun, reminds me of a regular singer in Key West at the Bull and Whistle bar. 'Too Much to Drink' - definitely brings back some memories of guys I have seen and heard do the same thing! Well I guess I could go on about them all, but I do have a war to get back to..." - Monte Tolar, Assistant Public Affairs Officer, THIRD Naval Construction Regiment, Camp Fallujah, Iraq.
"Well, you’re like a fine wine - the older you get the sweeter the music - after each sip that is!!" – Joe Kohr, Stephenville, TX
“If you have not gotten a chance to know the "Six String Sailor", better known as Scotty Lee Shuffield, you can get a good taste of his special style and authentic Texas twang from his first CD, "Texas Music in the Raw".
… each song paints a vivid picture and tells a story that will weave a path into your imagination and set your spirit floating across the Texas landscape.
… it's stripped down to the core. The magic of the production is in the man and the guitar. His experience in the world and on the road of life comes out in each song.
… so warm and so clear its like being at the fireside with him telling his stories influenced by a couple bottles of rum.
… embodies all the great elements of Texas music in simplicity - elements being depth of content, tasteful acoustic guitar, humor, and a voice that penetrates the walls we build around ourselves. Those walls come crashing down when you listen to this record or get a chance to see him perform.
… it is the most authentic sounding body of work I have heard in at least a decade.” – Brian Stripling, indie artist/promoter/visionary, Stephenville, TX
“Yeee Haawwwwww!!! I like the sound of your voice - just about as straightforward as you can get. I think the guitar playing is good, as it is always hard to play and sing like this. Good energy and it sounds like you’re having fun. Kudos!” – Dave Russell, Sacramento, California
"I am just finding your music...I really love it!" - Scott Fischer, Phoenix, AZ
“… a cool groove, only one acoustic coming on like a steamroller, a narrative structure, a simple melody and a singer who sings with his heart on his tongue. …great job, though the voice is a bit too-o-o-o-o-o scratchy for my personal taste...but that’s just taste and says nothing about the quality of your music, which is definitely there...” ;-) – Andreas Laudwein-Classen (“boxshifter”), Düsseldorf, Germany
“… caught me by surprise first off because the singer had such a raspy voice - I was pleasantly surprised the voice ringing was ringing true. I could here very clearly all of the lyrics set forth. … lyrics by the way were original and almost hilarious with a nice undertone of love and understanding. I like how the songs bring the singer into the future with his remembrance of the past.
… the singer attached some originality with a friendly tone.” – James Question, Tualatin, Oregon
“…nice textures on the rhythm guitar. The singer has a whiskey-type voice. This guy is a very good rhythm guitarist, and yes, there is a big difference between good rhythm guitarists and not so good ones. The good ones put riffs in the right places. This guy does just that. High marks - extra credit for originality.” – “Bumpkin”, indie artist/singer-songwriter, Irving, Texas
“…had me smiling from ear to ear. The guitar rhythm is great. It's got a great groove …lyrics are put together with that southern rock style of prose - a style that is not easy to pull off, and you've done it here.” – Benjy Rivas, Las Cruces, New Mexico
“Sittin' around the campfire – late night - passin' the flattop around - rough around the edges, but that’s what it is… Just takin a guess, I'll bet this ‘Cat’ has got a whole bunch of tunes just waiting to be heard. This guy is a songwriter, and I tip my hat to that.” – Nick Collura, Nelsonville, Ohio

Fourth generation Texan, Scotty Lee Shuffield is a Texas 'TropRock' Music' singer-songwriter who has been active in the North and Northeast Texas music scene since returning home to Texas in the spring of 2000. His rambling lifestyle commenced when, in 1951, he was born in Dallas. After living three of his early “kinder” years in Munich, Germany, he spent the remainder of his childhood in Texas, growing up in Grand Prairie, Houston and Stephenville. Learning to play the guitar at age 10; Scotty Lee spent most of his youth and early adult life adapting rock, blues, folk and country music into his own personal eclectic style.
At age nineteen, he ventured out into the world, spending his adult life living all over the globe, in pursuit of a naval career. During those years, he added ukulele and mountain dulcimer to his musical quiver and mostly played for friends; sharing his music in the comfort of someone’s living room, or on a back porch, at an intimate kitchen table, or around a cozy wood stove or a friendly campfire. Shortly after his retirement from the Navy in 1997, while on a visit home to Texas, he was challenged by friends to start writing his own songs. He quickly accepted their challenge and found his life would never been the same.
In April of 2000, he ultimately returned home to his native Texas, following a twenty-nine year absence. Finding himself quickly ushered into the local Texas Music scene, he immersed himself in it. This became a major part of his life, as he forged his own style of Texas Music with ever-expanding influences of his nomadic coastal, tropical and maritime experiences.
Scotty Lee is affiliated with BMI, is an active member of the Academy of Texas Music, and is a charter member of Texas Music Nation and the Margarita M.A.F.I.A., is a member of the Lone Star Parrothead Club, serves as Vice President for the North East Texas Parrothead Club; and has served on the Board of Directors for the Fort Worth Songwriters Association. During the past few years, he has performed at numerous songwriter showcases, campouts and benefit concerts throughout North, Central and East Texas; Oklahoma, Louisiana and Arkansas. He is a veteran performer at the Texas Music Nation Celebration and Raz on the Braz Music Festivals, not to mention many other local festivals around the region. Scotty Lee's Americana and Texas Music stylings honor his Texas heritage. His Trop Rock, Coastal and Tropical oriented tunes spring from his love of the ocean and the fact that he has spent the majority of his life living in some kind of coastal environment.
Scotty Lee has been happily married to his loving wife Janice, for more than 27 years. They reside deep in the heart of the East Texas Piney Woods outside of Whitehouse, Texas, where they enjoy a peaceful getaway spot on the southwestern shore of Lake Tyler, (Latitude: 32°12'51.62"N/Longitude: 95°10'54.61"W). Scotty Lee and Janice have three children and four grandchildren, who are scattered to winds much like their lives have been over the years.
Scotty Lee has two CD's available for consumption by a hungry audience. His first project, "Texas Music In The Raw" is more of a Texas Music offering, with a few tropical flavored tunes that was recorded as a studio live,"Me and My Guitar" kinda recording that was engineered by Luke Nichols at Lonesome Prairie Studios in Crowley, Texas; and "Six String Sailor", which is a full-blown Trop Rock production, produced by "Toucan Don" Burke at Warm Weather Music Headquarters, in Dallas, TX. Both CD's are available from MyTexasMusic.com, as well as one of his songs on the compilation CD, "Angels In Tropical Shirts", which has one of his tunes on it.
Coming Soon: I'll soon have another couple of tunes showcased on two compilation CD's "Meet The Phlockers Anthology, Volume 1" (title subject to change) that will be released soon by the good pholks at MeetThePhlockers.com, and "Angels In Tropical Shirts, Vol. 2". These will also be available for a limited time at MyTexasMusic.com.
