Led by singer/songwriter Ashen Keilyn, SCOUT boasts a sound that is a fascinating mixture of infectious melodies and picture painting lyrics– masterfully held together with powerful and adventurous riffs. Keilyn’s voice, while alluring and intoxicating, never loses its edge and dances effortlessly between rock-and-roll and pop.
The true collaborative role of Steve Schiltz (front man of acclaimed indie rock band, Longwave) demands to be recognized too, whether it’s in SCOUT co-writing or performance. However, Schiltz takes center stage as the band’s producer– meticulously carving deep grooves, highlighting Keilyn’s melodic nuances and taking the listener on the sonic journey that is SCOUT.
SCOUT released their first full-length record, “It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time” on a New York City indie label to stellar reviews in everything from Billboard, SPIN to The Village Voice– who declared, “Scout singer Ashen Keilyn is a star...” That album debuted in the Top 30 of the College Music Journal.
For SCOUT’s next project, Carl Glanville (Patti Smith and Joan Jett) recorded and mixed “This Soft Life” while on hiatus from U2; taking the band’s esteem to an even higher level
SCOUT has appeared on NBC's Late Night With Conan O'Brien and was featured on HBO’s The Sopranos with a performance role. The N Network’s DeGrassi, CBS’s The Guiding Light, Kohl’s, Kraft Foods, Cheerios, Nivea, American Airlines, NBC, Miramax and Showtime have all made SCOUT’s sound part of their marketing strategy.
In the Fall of 2008, SCOUT went deep into the creative realm– resolved to go into the studio and not come out ‘til they get it right. Well, they came out– and they got it right. Schiltz produced and insightfully enlisted Austin, Texas producer Jim Eno (Spoon drummer) to put his incomparable touch on three of the album’s eleven tracks.
“So Close” is SCOUT’s masterpiece and all who hear it must agree that the band has found its voice and claimed a well-deserved spot on the playlist of any discerning music fan.
SCOUT’s new album is slated for release in late 2009.
