Matthew Stawski is a filmmaker from the Midwest of America. Born and raised in the suburbs of Detroit, Matthew was creatively fueled by music as a child, inspired by the deep history of Motown. His beginnings were with short films and music videos, which he still creates today as he did back in high school. Straight out of high school, Matthew directed several videos for the political punk band Anti-Flag (RCA Records), being only 18 years old when the videos premiered on television stations such as MTVU and Fuse across the globe.
Matthew has since directed music videos for clients across the nation such as Fall Out Boy, Snoop Dogg and Kanye West. Matthew also does motion graphics and was nominated in 2007 for an MVPA award in the computer effects category for his work on Common’s music video ‘A Dream’, from the soundtrack to the motion picture ‘Freedom Writers’.
Matthew now has a Bachelor’s degree of film and video with a Directing concentration from Columbia College Chicago. He resides in Los Angeles, California, directing under the production company Refused TV (www.refused.tv). He has several short film scripts in the works and plans to create more shorts in between the music videos he directs. He reads comic books, watches musicals and listens to Cyndi Lauper on his free time.
