Screen Peace Film Festival's Blurbs |
About me:
Since the Greater Dayton, Ohio Area has proudly become a national locus for peace activity, in 2007 the Dayton International Peace Museum presented the inaugural ScreenPeace public film series. The event featured six famous and favorite titles that each offered a special perspective on “peace,” motion pictures that literally came to life on the big screen theaters!
This first ScreenPeace film festival generated over $5,000 to support the ongoing mission of the Dayton International Peace Museum. Such kindness and generosity is too rare these days. Everyone connected with the Dayton International Peace Museum would like to extend a heartfelt THANK YOU to each of our sponsors who helped ScreenPeace become a reality; without the volunteers who graciously gave their time to perform a multitude of tasks, such a massive event would not have been possible; and to everyone who attended the screenings in 2007 and helped make the festival a success, you will always be remembered as the pioneers who stepped up to be counted when we needed you most.
With your financial support, the series’ ticket proceeds went directly to the Dayton International Peace Museum. Our region’s celebrated 501(c)3 nonprofit Peace Museum, located in the historic Pollack House in downtown Dayton, displays permanent and traveling exhibits, houses a library and research center, delivers conflict resolution and peace education programs for public and private schools, and features special educational, artistic, environmental, relational, and spiritual events on the many ways to effect peace.
A film festival like ScreenPeace is a huge undertaking. If you know of any entities whom we should contact for sponsorship, if you have suggestions for motion pictures that you would like considered for 2008's program, if you care to volunteer some time to assist our planning and/or implementation, or if you just want to keep in touch, please email info@screenpeace.org. We also encourage you to join the Dayton International Peace Museum’s mailing list for monthly emails outlining DIPM activities…and check in on-line here regularly to keep apprised about progress toward ScreenPeace 2008.
Yours in peace,
Thomas Girvin
