Lacy James	Nov 24 2009 3:18 AM Thanks very much for watching! Not too nosy at all; I am always interested to hear composers' reactions to my dances and I'm so happy you enjoyed the birds. I had heard of Messiaen's ability re colors, but don't know much about it... I think that perhaps he could literally see them, in relation to music? I do think of color quite often when envisioning dances, but more with my "mind's eye"... I did attempt to represent the specific birds in Messiaen's Petites Esquisses d'oiseaux with this choreography. The red dancer is the robin, the black dancers are the blackbirds, the blue is the skylark and the other brown/yellow dancer is the song thrush. I researched something about their movement and personalities, and also went by the kind of energy/feeling that Messaien created for each of them. I don't know if the Robin is a pianist, but I would not be surprised! The hand movements were made to evoke her personality (and, perhaps, the occasional feather)
Veronique Vanhoucke	Nov 21 2009 8:12 PM You are right about Satie, The first piece of les trois morceaux and the other gnossiennes are a lot alike but this one has more contrast in nuances and chords. He finished the work in 1903. I know la cathedrale engloutie but haven't played it yet, Debussy is one of my favourite composers. You seem to know the Impressionism oeuvre.
