I began writing poetry and short stories at an early age to escape the harsh realities I faced while growing up in a Brooklyn housing project. On my journey to becoming a published author, I have written and edited training material for national organizations, and volunteered as a journalist for a church magazine. In addition to my debut novel, I am the author of an erotic anthology, and a contributing author to The Breakthrough: a Triumph of My Soul Anthology, with my short story entitled Shattered Mirrors. I currently live in North Carolina with my two sons. For more information, feel free to visit me at www.sddenny.com.
Breanna Baker stopped believing in fairytales the night of the tragic accident that claimed her father’s life when she was a teen. Her fear of loss led her to sabotage any potentially long term relationship that she encountered. Now working as a corporate professional in Atlanta, Bree tries to manage a normal life. But when her doctor drops the unexpected bomb that she’s five weeks pregnant by her live-in boyfriend, fear resurfaces and she hides the news from him and plans an abortion. Before Bree has an opportunity to terminate the pregnancy, her grandmother dies unexpectedly and she must return home to Charlotte, North Carolina for the funeral. While there, she wrestles with family issues and helps finalize some of her grandmother’s business affairs. Although consuming, the family issues that Bree struggles with pale in comparison to the shocking piece of information she learns about her grandmother’s last will and testament. Piece by piece, a buried family secret is revealed that makes her question what really happened the night of her father’s fatal accident, and suddenly, the past has more influence on Bree’s future than she could have ever imagined.

All too often we see women who have given up because of some adversity they have experienced in life. It may even be you. Whether it’s the result of some form of abuse, low self esteem, fear of failure, depression or whatever has caused it to happen; too many women are giving up on their dreams and not living up to their full potential. Through my writing, I want to show examples of women overcoming the obstacles or fears that hold them back from flourishing and living richly satisfying lives in the face of adversity. I hope that The Baker’s Dozen will inspire someone to reach deep within and find that inner strength needed to cross the barriers that hold them back from living fulfilling lives.
