Influences
Musically? Everyone...but especially anything extreme and percussion & guitar-centric. Preference for solo or small ensemble, but large ensemble when it's done right (Beethoven, Elfman, etc.).
Everything else? Sagan, Hefner, Locke, Kant, Jefferson, Pythagoras, Takamatsu, Pirsig, Laird, Gilgamesh, Lucy & the first sapien to touch fire & his descendent who segued from manipulative to referential language, ancient Greek pankrationists, Gillean of the Battleaxe, Maslow (Hierarchy), Kohlberg (Moral Development), Tony Alva (Dogtown), Knaus & Denny...oh, and this guy right here:
David M. McLean is an independent musician who runs ,
performs solo (clinics & gigs) or with his duo ALIEN BLUE, teaches privately, writes instructional columns for a variety of music web-sites, conducts the "Guitar Gods" interview series for Tinfoil Music, runs a small recording studio, and more.
