Originally formed in 1999 as an eclectic cover band playing punk, rockabilly, and surf instrumentals, the Sea Devils quickly turned their attention exclusively to traditional surf. After several years of spectacularly successful shows in its adopted neighborhood of Williamsburg/Greenpoint, the group temporarily disbanded, reforming briefly with some personnel changes as the Shinto Kings. When the band found itself with three out of four of the original members, the name was changed back to the Sea Devils, and the group began to compose original numbers that stretch the definitions of the oft-hyphenated genre. The ever-trendy Billyburgers are proving difficult to woo back into the clubs, however, and the band has begun looking farther afield for its fan base, with a Myspace presence part of its strategy to take its fun-loving but edgy sound worldwide. An album is in the works. SEA DEVILS were mighty tickled to have been mentioned in the NY PRESS's October 2, 2001 Best of Manhattan Issue under BEST EXCLUSION OF LOCAL MUSIC: http://www.nypress.com/14/40/news&columns/5.cfm
