SEAFOOD: where have you been ? DVD
thanks to the long standing efforts of seafood friend and video director Ben Hall. This dvd is an intimate insight into the band embarking on their last ever European tour. Filled with dirty vans, packed and unpacked shows, frenetic performances, tv sessions, drunk ramblings and bored insanity tour antics. This is the perfect bookend to a fantastic 11 years in the industry + Extras (see blog for more details)
"British indie rock quartet Seafood first came to the attention of the music press via a series of limited-edition singles on the independent Fierce Panda and Kooky labels. The band had come together in 1996 when bassist Kevin Hendrick and drummer Caroline Banks spotted an advert vocalist/guitarist David Line and guitarist Charles McLeod had placed in a classified newspaper. They were signed to a short-term deal by Fierce Panda in 1997, after their fourth gig. After playing two U.K. tours and releasing the "Scorch Comfort," "Psychic Rainy Nights," and "Porchlight" singles, the Messenger in the Camp compilation was issued in late 1998. In 1999, Seafood signed a permanent deal with Fierce Panda and released their full-length debut, Surviving the Quiet. After tours supporting Llama Farmers and Idlewild, Seafood made their American debut at the CMJ Festival in New York. Successive singles -- "This Is Not an Exit," "Belt," and "Led By Bison" -- breached the U.K. Top 100 as the band continued building a solid fan base.
2001 saw Seafood recording their second album in New York with Girls Against Boys' Eli Janney handling production duties. The resulting When Do We Start Fighting... received excellent reviews in the U.K. music press. Seafood followed the release with more heavy touring, including supports with Placebo and My Vitriol. Overseas, America got their taste of Seafood when When Do We Start Fighting was issued on Nettwerk in April 2002. A subsequent tour with Dashboard Confessional and European dates with Ash and Jimmy Eat World coincided the band's stance inside the press." ~ Simon P. Ward, All Music Guide
"Cloaking," "Splinter," and "Western Battle" were the three singles released from When Do We Start Fighting, respectively. "Pleasurehead" was released as a split single with the band Jetplane Landing in June 2002.
In 2004, Seafood released the new song "Summer Falls" as a download only/promotional single. This was followed by their most successful single, "Good Reason," from their upcoming third full-length album. Seafood released their third full length album, As The Cry Flows, in May 2004. Following this release was the third single from the album, "Sleepover" in October 2004.
In September 2006, Seafood release new album Paper Crown King on Cooking Vinyl UK and on Cooking Vinyl U.S. in Feb 2007. It was recorded and produced by the band at their own London studio called "Neat Science." It was then lovingly mixed by the fair hands of Eli Janney of (Girls Against Boys) in New York on a very windy West28thSt. The album sees the guitars back up to ten yet retains the atmospheric maturity of it's predecessor with a more focused attention to dynamic song structures.
After the departure with Bass player Kevin Hendrick wanting to focus more on his record label Tome, seafood set out on tour firstly with Alex Smith and then with Cahir O'Doherty (guitarist with Fighting With Wire, Jetplane Landing) on bass duties. After a successful UK tour Seafood embarked on what was to be their last ever tour of Europe and thanks to the help of long time collaborator Ben Hall managed to document the experience to tape. This will be available to buy soon.
Which brings us to a closing chapter in the bands history, Seafood have had the greatest life experiences throughout the bands 11 year run and have been lucky enough to record 4 full length albums, an Ep and countless singles, as well as tour the world, play all of the major festivals and graced the airwaves both sound and visual. All of which would have been impossible without the dedication of it's fan base and supporters throughout these heady years. Spreading the love and showing at shows.
A massive thanks to you all
The band members continue to create and their efforts will always have links from this page, so keep coming back. This myspace will continue to be updated.
Seafooder's of Brighton: I've put a couple of copies of the new Seafood DVD in Resident and Rounder Records. Pay the man or woman behind the counter £11.99 and they will let you take it home.
OK, so its taken a while but I've just sent the Seafood DVD off to be duplicated. Turned out pretty well and I think for any Seafood fans out there - it's worth owning - even if I do say so myself. The main feature is a 77min long video diary of the bands 2007 European Tour; loads of performances, exclusive acoustic numbers and a lot of f**king about in a tour van. Cahir from Fighting With Wire plays bass on the tour is an Irish clown. There are a sack of extras including all the outtakes, Dave being interviewed by Claire Kember and playing acoustically on Brighton's Juice FM, Seafood at Reading 1998, Paper Crown King Promos & these music videos: Led By Bison, Cloaking, Good Reason & Signal Sparks. There's even a brilliant re-make of the Signal Sparks video by Seafood fan Mat Evans. So... this DVD not only concludes Seafood's career but it is an end of an era for me. Having worked with the band for over 10 years, this DVD is the fruits of all that labour... Apart from the separate budgets for the music videos, the contents of this DVD were produced out of love. A rather misguided and abusive kind of love, but love none-the-less. So please buy a copy, I'm pretty sure you won't regret it! You will be able to order your copy over the clever tinternet from the SmallTown America Online Shop in just a few weeks time (http://www.smalltownamerica.co.uk/buy.php). It will cost you the princely sum of a tenner +p&p. I'll post again when I've got the link from STA. Just priming you folks.
Hi! Almost unbelievable, but a band from Lübeck could become Myspace Featured Artist this week! How? Simply vote with two mouse clicks until June 11th on www.myspace.com/myspacebandradar
Our new album "Herbarium" is
out now on CdBaby (MP3 so far, physical CD is on its way).
Diverse palette of styles (post-rock,
ambient, electronica, trip-hop, with elements of noise, dub,
neoclassic and free improvisation), united by cinematic, slightly
pensive mood.
«Herbarium» is called so
because of heterogeneity of «songs», which can be
compared to miscellaneous leaves in the album, still being belonged
to the family of trees. Trying to avoid non-alive metaphors here,
only thought of diversity and warm and innermost feeling that
herbarium is capable to conjure up. «... This leaf I picked up
in the park where I met her, and this - I sat by the river,
contemplating...». So tracks were created – one was captured
in some magic jam, another – recorded layer by layer and
meticulously mixed then, next – cut from previous sessions and so
on.
All compositions are united by Poostosh
sense of music – mostly pensive, spatial, tender and experimental.
There's a lot of soul and charisma in every leaf... So please let
your soul look over our HERBARIUM.
