Ariel Pink of Haunted Graffiti says, “I know that Girls is a band that’s coming up. It’s a band that has transmutated, but is mostly the work of one Christopher Owens, backed by some surfer girls. I met Christopher Owens through Bridez’ Liza Thorn at Courtney Garvin’s house, after one of my shows in San Francisco. He was the guy that was wearing my outfit from the “Kate I Wait” video. When he joined[ Holy Shit I got to know him substantially more, he's a very fine fellow and a very exploding talent. An artist…a current artist who is in the throws of any kind of birthing, or you know a huge possessor, he's possessed by inspiration right now. I suppose I was encouraging him to move down to LA (to help him record his first record), but I think he opted on staying back in San Francisco.

Girls come out to Hotel Utah July 5 to release their debut split 7" as
part of Play Play Play Inc.’s fourth Mushrooms Internaçionale
happening. Tiny LA-based creature band, Softboiled Eggies, will also
be playing to support their debut full-length, Try It Again.
Girls' music is the masterpiece of one Christopher Owens. He manages
to craft the illusory pop song that sounds immediately nostalgic and
familiar upon the first listen, much like an errant Beach Boy or bum who
recently discovered that the summer of love has long been dead. His
music reminds you of the kind of stuff you may have listened to when
you were 17, when everything was tortured and beautiful at the same
time.
They will be releasing their debut album, "Lust for Life / Morning
Light" on a double-a sides split 7", put out by San Francisco record
label True Panther Sounds.
The show starts at 9 pm July 5, at Hotel Utah. Hotel Utah is located
at 500 4th St. @ Bryant. Admission is $8 before 11 p.m. After 11 p.m.
admission is $10.
