Leigh's Interests
|
| General | Shooting off at the mouth, feigning apathy, exercising, writing, button-mashing, talking too much, fantasizing about Japanese love dolls, "forgetting" to recycle, talking to the television, forgetting fictional characters aren't real, being unable to say no to people, beaming love out into the universe, summoning Bahamut, overanalyzing everything, being carelessly consumptive, decadently abusing time, perpetually quitting smoking, battling vague paranoia, reaching for the unreachable, gnawing insatiety, juvenile joy, the hedgehog's dilemma, braiding recklessness with fear of change, playing the same songs over and over even after they stop being cool, crystal, deer, black and wolf, boeckner, bejar, mercer and krug, krug, krug, going to shows and being a party queen (and also the world's most obnoxious drunk), shamelessly eating crow (feathers and all), failing to be quiet, idealizing, talking myself down from ledges and pedestals alike. | | Music | Current shortlist: Sunset Rubdown, Swan Lake, Animal Collective, Frog Eyes, Destroyer, Interpol, Panda Bear, Wolf Parade, Grizzly Bear, Neutral Milk Hotel, The Gerbils, Circulatory System, Sunshine Fix, The Olivia Tremor Control, Apples In Stereo, Fleet Foxes, Deerhunter, Atlas Sound, Vivian Girls, Black Lips, The Clientele, Velvet Underground, The Beatles, The Stooges, Pixies, Nirvana, Joni Mitchell, Blank Dogs, Woods, Ganglians, Kurt Vile, Thee Oh Sees, The Beets, GunFight! Werewolves, Quiet Loudly, Natureboy, The Dip, Soft Black, Air Waves, Yeasayer, Pink Mountaintops, Black Mountain, Lightning Dust, Molasses, White Flight, Papercuts, Anamanaguchi, Japandroids, St. Vincent, Beach House, Phoenix, Think About Life, Box Elders, Culture Reject, Bowerbirds, White Denim, Tiny Vipers, Slow Club, Amen Dunes, Bibio, Paralyze Humanity Sequence, Smith Westerns, The Antlers, Le Loup, jj, The xx, Neon Indian, Micachu, Mission Of Burma, Local Natives, Two Door Cinema Club, Thao With The Get Down Stay Down | | Movies | Whenever I watch movies I start fidgeting for what I can press to skip the cutscenes. You'll be lucky if you can get me to watch YouTube videos. But I'll watch American Beauty over and over and probably always cry. | | Television | The Simpsons, Upright Citizens Brigade, Strangers With Candy, The Critic, Futurama, Prison Break, Law & Order, SVU, SNL, Judge Alex, Divorce Court, Survivor, Cowboy Bebop, FLCL, Paranoia Agent, Haibane Renmei, Rozen Maiden, Gungrave, Evangelion, Ouran High School Host Club, Ichigo Mashimaro, Azumanga Daioh | | Books | Lately I have read and enjoyed Osamu Tezuka's MW, Taiyo Matsumoto's Tekkon Kinkreet, and Junot Diaz's The Brief And Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao. My all-time favorite authors are Vladimir Nabokov and Haruki Murakami, and I'm a big fan of A Tale of Two Cities, Le Petit Prince, and some Paulo Coelho stuff. I'm also a sucker for existentialist fiction, the bleaker the better (even though I'm more of a Kierkegaardian than anything) -- Candide, L'Etranger and Nausea top the list, and No Exit is my favorite play. I really liked Chuck Palahniuk's older work, like Choke, Survivor and Invisible Monsters, but these days he's degraded into a shock artist like he's afraid of his own talent. Lame. Other than that, I get by on pretending to be way more well-read than I am -- come on, you do it too! | | Heroes | I don't need another hero; ALL I WANT IS LIFE BEYOND THE THUNDERDOME |

Leigh's Blurbs |
About me:
some pretty bright and bubbly terrible scene that was doing her thing on your chest
I'm a videogame journalist who lives in Brooklyn. You should come play some GTA sometime. Somehow -- maybe because games became "work" and thus I needed new play -- I became a huge music nerd, and love meeting musicians and supporting bands whose shows I have enjoyed. If you're looking at this, it's probably because I was at your show, or because you're intended to invite me to yours.
I party hard; that's me you hear singing along at the top of my lungs, and that was probably me who just spilled beer on you, too, apologies, and I'm sorry if I step on your foot, because I insist on dancing in high heels. I'm like five two -- I need the heels. I'm too small to crowdsurf, but I have the bruises to prove that I tried.
I'm easy to get to know, because I've got nothing to hide. I'm universally loving until you give me a reason not to be, and there's very little that actually makes me mad, but if you cross that line, all bets are off. I'm often sentimental to excess and have trouble adhering to the social norm of "hiding your unglamorous emotions to seem more cool", which is a problem because I'm also ruthlessly pragmatic.
I labor under the burden of the misguided belief that I was born to Do Something Great. At the very least, I've heaps of good karma, and tend to bring luck to my friends. That's gotta be worth somethin', right?
I don't really use MySpace for much other than looking into bands these days; social stuff goes on Facebook and on Twitter and whatnot. So if you wanna reach me, Google. I'm pretty reachable. Bloody your hands on a cactus tree, wipe it on your dress and send it to me.
I still tend to answer MySpace messages, but I don't accept friend requests from people I don't know, I am not interested in a threesome with you and your gross hip hop party wifey, and don't send me creepy messages about my eyes or something (y'know, unless we know each other), because then I'll just ridicule you to my friends.
Oh, yeah -- lots of times i take iPhone photos of things I like, and I put them at http://microchipheart.vox.com/.
I can write. Sometimes I write here:
