   About Sean Cooney
Sean Cooney is a folk singer/songwriter, workshop leader and historian. He lives by the sea on the beautiful Hartlepool Headland where he leads local heritage projects with schools and community groups, celebrating the rich history of the area in song and story. His latest venture is HERUTEU: A Musical Journey through the History of Hartlepool. This is a 60 minute concert of local songs tracing the history of the town. It includes original songs about the lives of the early Northern saints, the legendary Crofters, the Bombardment of 1914 and much more. He is one third of the Young'Uns who continue to make a name for themselves on the folk scene and who, in 2008, appeared at major maritime festivals such as Glasson Dock (Lancaster) Liverpool Tall Ships, Great Yarmouth and Bie Daip (Netherlands). He runs the Pot House Folk Club which is a fortnightly (friday) singaround at the Harbour of Refuge pub on the Headland in Hartlepool He leads sea shanty workshops for children and young people and is very proud of Hartlepool's very own school shanty group, St Bega's Shanty Crew, who took landlubbers by storm in 2008.

If u love me (as a friend or more) ull read the whole thing. What would you do if for every moment you were truly happy there would be 10 moments of sadness? What would you do if your best friend died tomorrow and you never got to tell them how you felt? So, I just wanted to say, even if I never talk to you again in my life, you are special to me and you have made a difference in my life. I look up to you, respect you, and truly cherish you. Send this to all your friends, no matter how often you talk, or how close you are, and send it to the person who sent it to you. Let old friends know you havent forgotten them, and tell new friends you never will. Remember, everyone needs a friend. dont ever leave the one u love for the one u like, because the one u like will leave u for the one they love. tonite ur true love will realize how much they love u between 1 and 4 in the morning. tomorrow the shock of your life will occur if u break the chain. you will have bad luck for 10 years, if you dont pass this on to 15 people. if u get this it means the person who sent it truly cares about you...
KEEP UR HEAD UP!

If you wake up in a red room with no windows and doors, DONT panic.. youre just in my heart!!! Send this to all the friends you want to keep forever...

Today is Bestfriend Day. Send this to all of your friends, and me if I am one. If you get 7 back you are LOVED!!! Here are the numbers of what kind of friend you are based on how many you get back..

1-3 ~ youre a bad friend
4-6 ~ youre an okay friend
7-9 ~ youre a good friend

I never know which profile to comment on, Sean.... yours, Michaels, David's, The Pot House... or the YoungUn's. You drew the short draw this morning, I'm afraid :-)

Seriously, though, I just have to say thank you from Janet and me for yet another great singaround last night. You'll be needing more room if the crowds get any bigger. Big "up" to Michael and David, too.

We also send a personal thanks to you my friend for your understanding about Ron's dementia. He seemed to have a great time and joined in with some of the songs. Thanks too, for taking time to come across and with my mum at the end. She holds you in high regard for that.

Best wishes till next time

Phil

(Just enjoyed hearing your good folk-voice, again.)

After you've finished here, you may like to hear this poem sung on myspace -

2 of 230, walkaboutsverse.741.com: WALKABOUT WITH MY PEN

Once drove an old sedan, up north,
From a place in Sydney to Cairns;
Then to Kuranda I went forth,
By train, to look without set plans.

I browsed through the trendy market,
With fresh fruits of tropical kind;
Walked to the creek through lush thicket -
Nature’s hand giving peace of mind.

I dined in a scenic cafe;
Then, outside, as I wrote for yen,
Some passing Kooris called-out: “Hey,
You go walkabout with your pen.”

Request or question, I don’t know -
Assured voices, elderly men.
That’s now several years ago,
And I’ve seen the world - with my pen.

Great to have been with you all last night, Sean. Janet and me never fail to be moved by the talent, the friendship and the welcome we get whenever we come to your place. I'm still reeling from the 100% singing and clapping from the song Gary and me sang.

Might not make your birthday bash (due to work - shite?) but we'll see what we can do.

Best wishes

Phil

PS: Tell your lovely mum she got a mention in my blog this weekend.

After you've finished here, you may like to hear this folk carol, on myspace -

230 of 230, walkaboutsverse.741.com: AS GOSPELLERS HAVE SAID/CHRISTMAS SUNG SIMPLY

As gospellers have said,
Beneath signalling skies,
On land dusty to tread,
A trough in a stable
Was the strawy first-bed
Of a divine baby -
The forgiving Godhead.

A season for new hope -
There then and here now;
The yuletide of goodwill -
There then and here now.

In respect of this chance,
Beneath bright or dark skies,
Faith’s the star that we glance
Attending Christ’s churches
And trying to enhance,
With singing and ritual,
Our God-loving stance.

Poem-come-song: 101 of 230: JUST SUBSIST

At times when I’ve had time to take,
I’ve thought of a plot by a lake:
The plot would be of fertile ground;
The lake would have some trout around.

The plot’s house would be made of brick -
Well insulated, in good nick.
And round this abode there’d be built -
Solar panels, kept at best tilt.

Inside large coops would run the legs
Of chooks and quails - for fresh eggs.
A vine for grapes plus summer shade;
And, in thin beds, vegetables laid.

Up at dawn, to use all sunlight -
Fish and farm by day, read at night.
A spouse with me I’d not resist -
In retirement, we’d just subsist.
