Bio
The Sean Costello Memorial Fund for Bipolar Research Sean was a gifted blues musician who will be remembered for scintillating live performances and a passionate dedication to his art. His passing at the age of 28 came far too soon. In order to achieve what he did, Sean quietly overcame many challenges, the least apparent of which was social anxiety. He demonstrated great strength to blaze paths others could only dream of... In Sean's honor, his family has created a fund to support research into bipolar disorder and its links with social anxiety, to lobby for policy change to encourage early intervention, to provide support for affected families, and to provide funds for musicians who suffer such emotional challenges but cannot afford health insurance... His fund would wish to have very specific purposes:.. • To find ways to support early diagnosis and thus appropriate intervention.. • To reach out to families who suffer along with the seeming hopelessness of this heartbreaking disorder.. • To research the causes of social anxiety disorder as well as ways to help those who suffer with it including ways other than medication, music for example.. • To lobby for changes in policy which will allow intervention for those whose biochemistry fights against intervention and sobriety only when the harm to themselves and others is irreparable.. • And, in honor of Sean, to provide funds for musicians who suffer such emotional challenges perhaps more than the general population, but who often have no health insurance and who live in a world that does not enable them to avoid triggers than encourage relapse...
