Born in NYC and raised in Florida and Oklahoma, Sean has never been one to stay in one place for very long. Starting to play the guitar at 11 years old, writing his first song at 12 and joining his first band at 13 has given Sean ample opportunities and experiences of the road and life.
"I love doing this. If i wasn't playing music i don't think i could get up out of bed every day, you know?"
Sean learned from old blues men by way of records, tapes and cds. After starting his band Friars Point, Sean took it to a higher level by shedding the strict blues sets in favor of more of a mixture between the blues and rock and pop. Soon Friars Point began playing weekly shows in various clubs around the area. At this time Sean released his first solo acoustic EP 'Franklin Sessions' in 2005. It would become the demos for the upcoming Friars Point EP.
With the release of the self titled Friars Point EP in 2006 the group began to gain regional success through airplay on local rock radio stations 94.7 the Buzz and the 99.3 the Zoo bringing them to the forefront of the regional rock scene. After a few years of getting his chops honed and paying his dues, Sean decided to move back to NYC and add his own touch to the scene.
"I felt that i had done all that the area had to offer me. I decided to see how far the music can take me somewhere else. New York is such an amazing place in so many ways. It's good to be back."
When asked how he would describe his music, all you get is a shrug and a momentary pause. "Southern flair with a city vibe."
What are other people saying about Sean Gibson?
'Another standout performance came from Sean Gibson, who drew us in with his first song, a bluesy original followed by a slower number that even involved Sean making up a pretty good bridge for it on the spot, words included. - January 15, 2008 Jezebel Music (Williamsburg, NYC)
'Friars Point is one of the best unknown bands I have ever heard. I had the pleasure of hearing them last year and was just blown away by their singer/guitarist Sean Gibson. This kid is going places if he wants to. He can play Hendrix and SRV like its nothing. If you like blues rock with a kick ass guitar player then check out Friars Point. No seriously check them out' - Review of 2005 Hinton Guitar Festival by Beti Bassman (Hinton, Oklahoma)
