So here's my story. I was born in Noorvik Alaska on the banks of the Kobuk river and that's why my middle name is Kobuk (co-buck). I was one of those kids who constantly did air guitar in my living room with a tennis racket or tied scarves around a broomstick and pretended I was Steven Tyler of Aerosmith (we're talkin "Toys in the Attic" era).------------------------------------------------------------------------------------My first band gig was singing Ramones covers in Jr High but after I got my first guitar I became the lead guitarist for many bands during high school and college. I listened to everything from Iron Maiden to Public Enemy to U2 to Caetano Veloso. The only common denominator for me is emotional intensity. A song has to grab me and I have to believe that the people playing it are living for that song.----------------------------------------------------------------So, after college I started to write and sing and wound up in a band with my brother Darren out in San Francisco. We played some great shows including the Burning Man festival (thanks to our bassist Dave Saull) but ultimately I just wanted to go in different musical directions than that band could go. I moved back to Ithaca and wrote over 100 songs in many different styles. I started recording at home and wound up at Wilburland working with Matt Saccuccimorano recording "Angels in the Rearview Mirror".-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------So now I'm a singer/songwriter in search of a band. I want to play rock music that is free from the cynicism and macho bs that often accompanies that culture. Something with intelligence, heart and room for spontaneous expression.

‘Boteco’ is an artful mixture of neo-futuristic traditional Brazilian rhythms with the right quantity of the best North American spices. It is funk and rock boiling and baking with samba, maracatu, frevo and baiao.
Put Pele and Mohammed Ali in a fictional mix machine. Now add Frank Zappa, Sergio Mendes, Tom Jobim and Roger Waters and fused in to one. What a mix eh? Bat Makumba is this fusion, multiplied by 2.
