Influences
I listened to lots of things, and still try to, so I guess these are my influences...
60s things, including of course the Beatles, and Grateful Dead and other San Francisco pop/rock ( I grew up in San Francisco) - check out the Sons Of Champlin, especially the album Loosen Up Naturally - that's where I'm at. Jeff Beck is one of my Gods ( I saw the Jeff Beck Group with Rod Stewart in San Francisco in...the old days).
Jazz type stuff - my parents listened, so it kinda soaked in (the same for classical music) - including Ornette Coleman, especialy my man Sonny Rollins, etc. etc. Am I a "jazz" player? I'm too lazy!!
Rock n Roll - I dig this by default - de fault of playing it a couple of years to keep going - God bless Chantilly Lace aus England.
The Blues - to this day I would say I'm more of a blues blower than anything else. My man Muddy, etc., etc.
I have a sneaking regard for folk/woody/acoustic music , but does it rock? Saw Bruce Springsteen's big roots band on TV the other night, and it was the best.
Speaking of roots - reggae and calypso feature heavily - respect to the Man Ezeke always (click here).
