Influences
I listened to lots of things, and still try to, so I guess these are my influences...
60s things, including of course the Beatles, and Grateful Dead and other San Francisco pop/rock ( I grew up in San Francisco) - check out the Sons Of Champlin, especially the album Loosen Up Naturally - that's where I'm at. Jeff Beck is one of my Gods ( I saw the Jeff Beck Group with Rod Stewart in San Francisco in...the old days).
Jazz type stuff - my parents listened, so it kinda soaked in (the same for classical music) - including Ornette Coleman, especialy my man Sonny Rollins, etc. etc. Am I a "jazz" player? I'm too lazy!!
Rock n Roll - I dig this by default - de fault of playing it a couple of years to keep going - God bless Chantilly Lace aus England.
The Blues - to this day I would say I'm more of a blues blower than anything else. My man Muddy, etc., etc.
I have a sneaking regard for folk/woody/acoustic music , but does it rock? Saw Bruce Springsteen's big roots band on TV the other night, and it was the best.
Speaking of roots - reggae and calypso feature heavily - respect to the Man Ezeke always (click here).

You would never have guessed, but the Steele/Darknell clan are gracing Florida with their considerable presence! For those in less sunny climbs (hello UK!), the weather has been..sunny!
Whilst I was here, I managed to get together with my (very!) old friend Kenny Crawley. Kenny was in my first band 'Teddybear', about 30 years ago, and has since worked with Trevor Horn, Propaganda, Floy Joy, and in recent years has been touring with Dicky Betts, which meant him being sworn in as an 'Allman Brother!
..as you can see we had a lot to catch up on!
Florida is treating us very well, and we are loving it!
Hi Sean, hope you don't mind me publicising this gig.. you see, I'm playing guitar on it, and I want some people to come! Now!.. for some Grownup-Records blurb At Grownup-Records, we are trying to build a roster of talented Welsh artistes, and this is our first launch party. If you would like to see what we do, and how it could affect you, pop down to the gig!
See you there.. Wear something loud! Al Steele - Grownup-Records/Music Wales
Hi mate.. how are you? I'm still looking for another gig to get us together!
I got spoiled on Fathers Day this year.
Leah managed to get in the all important 'guitar and chilli' before I'd even opened the envelope!.. and Lorna embellished with coloured 'guitar and chilli'.. seems to be a common thread!
I got new knives!! Whaddya mean, should have got a new shirt?!
Not to be outdone, Ceri got out her 'industrial strength' jet wash! She managed to cut grooves in the tarmac with it. She likes things really clean!!
Hope you have a great week. I am going to 3 great concerts this weekend. The Temptations Friday, James Taylor Sunday, and Steely Dan on Monday. Better earn some money fast!!
Dear Sean, I have just come back from a 3-day stint in Dubai, so I thought I would send you some pics to piss you off!.. maybe next time..
I was due to take out a 9-piece band to back 'The Sounds of The Supremes', but due to the 'credit crunch', we were cut to 5. Fortunately five people can still make a pleasing noise!
The venue was outdoors, and a great location..
..as was our hotel.
Check out the photo album for more pics.
The record company has been keeping us stupidly busy, but at this moment, I would say, 'that is good'!
Hope to get some more free time soon.. I could do with enough time to wash my hair!!!!
Tis bin a while since we played witchoo! tried callin ya tuther day! nothin crutial! you busy! we aint! but got some gigs coming up in the summer!...Peace!
hey Sean, long time no click! how's it going! when you gonna come back and blow me, ooops!...i mean blow for us! SOULED OUT... that is! I occasionally set the light controller at gigs to the Spectrum mix, in your honour! Here, check this picture out, i look great, don't you think! however, i've only ever had 1 comment on this picture, and it was, "nice bass!" Ian
