The acoustic alternative sounds of Sean McKenna capture the human condition and all its emotional depth in the power of song. McKenna searches deep in his own soul to find heart truths that reflect all our lives. Thus, his music is both personal and universal, the true mark of an artist. McKenna isn't afraid to bare his soul in his songwriting; it's courage and intelligence are the pillars of its success.
Open Diary
McKenna's willingness to wear his heart on his sleeve through his songwriting has a lot to do with why his songs strike a chord in the listener and why the audience can always find some new nuance to explore and understand. McKenna considers his music to be a journal open wide for all to read. “My music is my open diary,” he says. “It's my way of talking about my problems in life.”
Observation
Besides peering into his own soul, McKenna is a studier of people. His music works because it understands the human condition and it has that wisdom because of McKenna's astute reflections on life. Every day we interact with people. For many of us, these are fleeting experiences, relegated to the back of one's memory, if kept at all. McKenna pays close attention, however, to the relationships and actions of people, analyzing motive and trying to further understand why people do what they do. It enriches his music. “I'm inspired by people around me. I observe life, including my own.”
The Artist at Work
McKenna has already established himself as a stage presence to watch. His talent is noteworthy. He plays all the instruments for his songs but uses live looping to create the illusion of a full band on stage. He's toured up and down the east coast, hitting a variety of venues. He also had his own show at the House of Blues. New touring is in the works in support of the re-release of his “Cutting Room Floor” album. Meanwhile, he's always busy writing new music and McKenna's in the studio frequently. He is currently working with A&R Select, the world's leading independent artist development firm, based out of Los Angeles, CA.
“McKenna searches the human heart and brings back beautiful maps. Those maps are his songs.” - A&R Select
