SEAN REA
BIOGRAPHY
Sean Rea, singer/songwriter spent his early years like most kids in LA soaking up that golden California sun and playing rock music with his High School friends. They were like thousands of garage bands that popped up and died out like weeds in the hot west coast weather. Spending his late teens and early twenties working and playing the legendary clubs and bars of the City of Angels.
His songwriting and unique playing style were developed as he watched the great musicians and songwriters passing through clubs like the Troubadour “I spent my share of time standing in line for a chance to play the Hoot Night gigs”.
"As a left hander, I had to turn my friends' guitars over, and they showed me how to play in my upside down style. I did some sneaking around then while I learned to play, my dad thought it was a waste of time. But it was all cool in the end."
"I produced my first recordings in a small studio near an old pub called kelly Cellers in Belfast.I was all of 19, and the producer because I was the one with 30 pounds to burn.It was a lot of money then, lol. The song was called, The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face. And it was a great one by a local writer."
"I had a lot of help and encouragement from some great musicians and industry pros over the years. Perhaps most from John Hall a good friend I met and had a lot of fun with along the way.” RICKENBACKER PUT THE RIC IN ELECTRIC.
Sean quickly progressed into the music industry in LA. Between studying electronic music and audio engineering at Cal State Dominguez Hills. He continued developing his songwriting and production skills, working with the likes of pianist Richard Bunger, producer arranger Jim Ed Norman and recording engineer Ron Capone.
The drive to write and perform has taken Sean across the world. From Laguna Beach Ca. to the Seychelles, and through every gigable cranny between there and his home in Donegal Ireland. Sean hit the road. Touring the pubs, clubs and colleges of Scotland and Ireland, extensively over the past few years. Sean has absorbed the influence of his Gaelic surroundings without surrendering to them. As his two latest cd releases show so aptly. .
Rainy Day's In Belfast
Days Of Shadow Days of Sun
Sean is a true romantic, and a natural story-teller.His songs are catchy with vivid imagery.
There is a soulful melodic quality to his work. big twelve strings, shimmering open tuned acoustic guitars and numerous musical influences run deep through his sound. It's been called "Big, Airy, and Powerful".But what it is for sure is his own, upside down backwards brand of Acoustic Rhythm and Blues."
Sean is a friend of Avalon guitars and luvs them.He is happy to endorse them as WORLD CLASS. He is also a member of IMRO,and NIMIC.
Sean is proud to have taken part in Northern Irelands best, if not biggest music festival over this past two years. THE BELFAST NASHVILLE SONGWRITERS FESTIVAL
