i am a self-taught artist, writer, photographer and spoken word/sound experimentalist. i am from south africa originally but i now live in my ancestral home ireland. i do not define myself by nationality, race or religion but like others am influenced by my roots and experiences. i am here because i would like to meet like-minded people and make contacts in the fields of art, writing and music. creative energy is a positive forcefield, and more needed at this time in our history than ever before. just like blood and oxygen, it is vital. i am passionate about freedom of expression, human rights, ecology, the state of the world, the state of our very fragile and volatile humanity... i know that neither you nor i can effect positive change on our own, but am encouraged by the concept of a combined effort.
besides being very involved with painting and art i hope to have a collection published featuring my poetry, examples of which i will post on here from time to time. as well as that i am working on my second novel and looking for a publisher for them both. i am recording a lot of my material and considering the possibility of bringing out an album. i am also hoping to do a lot more live readings of my work.
i paint mostly with acrylics, but also use other paints including watercolours; whatever is at my disposal really. i use a lot of recycled materials including cardboard and "found" objects in my art. my art influences are a mixture of urban/ new world/ old world and rural. i particularly like people and "ethnic" culture and customs. i am influenced by current affairs and the human continuum. i am also influenced by the d.i.y. aspect, attitude, journalistic approach and sound of punk and postpunk musics; also the look and the graphics. i am interested in third world art, particularly african; and street art including graffiti. essentially i suppose i am an outsider artist, but am influenced by major movements in the history of art including cubism, pop art, surrealism, action painting and more recently stuckism. the spirituality, social observation and righteousness of roots reggae music and rastafari also inspires me.
in my writing i am inspired by many things; but social observation, the human experience (the good and often the bad), the nature of creativity, and also spirituality (but not religion) inform much of my work.
join the dots in art, music and writing is what i endeavour to do with my work.
i'd like to meet: art agents. art galleries. art lovers. working artists. publishers. promoters. readers. musicians: reggae sound systems, punk, d.i.y. etc. film makers. photographers. punks. rastafarians. soul rebels.
unless you are a registered publisher with a proven track record in publishing please don't invite me. i will accept zines & journals if they appeal to me aesthetically. please don't invite me if you talk, talk, talk about changing the world; get out there and actually do something for once. i am a quiet and reserved person and not at all into the mass poetry, hobby group thing on here; i don't have the time for it anyway. i am not interested in adding self-proclaimed critics either, unless they want to buy my canvases!
i am an anti-stereotype!
"new art riot"
disclaimer: if i publish something on here which sounds or looks like it might be personal, it doesn't automatically follow that it is about me or anybody else that i know for that matter. that is why the process is known as creative, but if you're an artist or a writer you already know that. i am also allowed to change my mind, seemingly contradict myself, stop and start over or even completely change direction; it is called life!
i have a page up at www.artistsilove.com
i don't sell art from this page per se, but welcome inquiries and am available for commissions.

Producers/directors/employers can post opportunities such as roles, casting calls, and positions absolutely free!
Hi Sean! Hope all is well over on your side of the world!
Just bringing by a pic for you, that I snapped last night from my front door. Unfortunately I forgot the camera was set to manual focus, hence why the tree is not in focus, but I thought you'd appreciate the colours anyways!
Hope the rest of the week is good for you my friend! ~ Jenny V
