Jack Johnson, Ben Harper, Damien Rice, Dashboard Confessional, Jimmy Eat World, and... oh ya, Glenn Medeiros (no, not really)
Sounds Like
Glenn Medeiros (yup, that was another joke)... still really defining the sound but since every song is a little different, I can't really say. Kind of a mish-mash of all those I mentioned as influences.
Born and raised in Kingston, ON... land of The Tragically Hip, Don Cherry and the Mullet (still fighting this last claim in the courts with Oshawa, ON). After graduating highschool I decided to follow my instincts to learn more about animals. Went to Uni in Guelph, ON and majored in Wildlife Biology and tested my prowess on the gridiron. What did this higher education teach me? Well, a lot. My 2 biggest lessons were... 1. There isn't much call for 160 pound white guys in professional football, and 2. Working with wildlife means living with wildlife. The first lesson was learned before ever leaving Guelph and really didn't dissapoint too much, however, the second took me a couple of years, including a winter in northern Ontario to really sink in.
Since there ain't many population studies to conduct in the GTA, and I wanted to give this region a shot, I did what most people would do... I went into television.
It was a bit of an adjustment at first, but now that I'm here I'm digging it. Somehow finding my way into a job at the Discovery Channel definitely doesn't suck, and since I've been in the big city I've really started to explore where this whole music thing could take me too. I've always toyed around with my guitar (well, since grade 11 anyway) and loved to play in front of people, but now, having a weekly open mic at the Gladstone Hotel, I've learnt so much more about being on stage, and having the opportunity to join my first band, the McFlies, with a group of other great musicians, I'm continually being reminded of what it is to be a musician, and how to be a better one.
So I guess you could say that I'm new to the whole scene, relatively speaking, but in the immortal words of Loverboy, I'm "Lovin' every minute of it... LOVIN'!!!"
More to come after the next big curveball.
Heard some great songs here since I landed on your space some 8 or 9 months ago; amazing lyrics; great vocals. Looking forward to a "Best-of" in a couple of years. :) Fly high!
TGIF little brother. I was tired of working so I thought I would comment on your wonderful singing voice. Keep up the hard work and you will make Mr. Medeiros proud.
word,
sorry could not make it the other night... campaign trail leaves little time for veering off the path. But anyway, if you're looking for something to do tonight, come to savannah room.
catch ya,
sarah
Sean - Nothing's gonna change my love for you. You ought to know by now how much I love you. One thing you can be sure of - I'll never ask for more than your love.
