Search attempts to transform the merely aural experience of hearing music
into something extrasensory. Their original compositions, based on motifs,
characters, and organic thought, create new worlds of color, depth, tangibility,
and exhilaration. The music becomes a theater of sound, taking audiences
on a trip of the imagination across time and space, where anything is not only
possible, but likely. Dedicated to the free spirit of spontaneous creation,
each performance is a singular journey into the unknown. The music
becomes a meditation in which all the elements of life are expressed
through sound. Emotions twist and surge in a musical landscape that
is as fluid and dynamic as the world we inhabit. The individual, in his
search, loses himself to a greater plane – the collective idea. It is music
that only can be created through love and trust.
Young in years, the members of Search nevertheless have put together a
resume that reads like a veteran musician’s tour sheet. After being
educated at the Berklee College of Music, the New School, and City College,
the four musicians toured extensively, playing with legendary bands in a wide
range of venues. They’ve performed at the JVC Newport Jazz Festival,
Tanglewood, the Litchfield Jazz Festival, the Boston Blues Festival, the Hartford Jazz
Festival, and NYC’s Vision Series. Some have been featured on the PBS special
“Autumn Eve,” a tribute to the late Woody Herman. Here in New York
they’ve played at Birdland, Lincoln Center, The Bowery Poetry Club,
The Living Theater, Smalls, the stone, Via Della Pace, The Bitter End,
Royals Downtown, and the Valez Cultural Center for the Arts.
They have also performed in Boston at Symphony Hall, the Regatta bar,
Ryles, and Scullers. They left their hearts – and a wealth of music – at San
Francisco’s Yoshi’s and Sophia’s. They’ve played the MGM Grand in Vegas.
The Kodak Complex in Los Angeles. They have toured the Caribbean and
Europe on Royal Caribbean and Carnival cruise ships.
Impressively, their bandmates have included Joe Lovano, Michael Buble,
Natalie Cole, Charnette Moffett, Eric McPherson, Patti Austin,
Bobby Short, Ben Vereen, Dave Creamer, Mark Dresser, Aaron Scott,
Sabir Mateen, Tim Haggins, Kenny Wessell, Roy Campbell, Jr.,
the German WDR Big Band, the John Allmark Jazz Orchestra,
and the Cab Calloway Orchestra. Recently, the band has
come under the tutelage of legendary instrumentalist and composer
Ornette Coleman, who has said of Search, “It's natural music and it
swings...it sounds like you guys are on the case.” Search is a new
ensemble dedicated to advancing the music that has taught us so much
about our lives and the world we inhabit.
