Only West Virginia has a lower percentage of residents with bachelor's degrees than Arkansas.
That's according to statistics from the U.S. Census Bureau.
Arkansas ranked 50th out of 51 states, plus the District of Columbia, with 18.2% of its population 25 and older holding a bachelor's degree. West Virginia was last, with 16.5% of its residents holding bachelor's degrees.
The national average was 27%.
The District of Columbia topped the list, with 45.9% of its population holding bachelor's degrees. Massachusetts was second, at 37%, followed by Maryland, Colorado, Connecticut, New Jersey, Virginia, Vermont, New Hampshire and New York rounding out the top 10.
The bottom five were Louisiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, Arkansas and West Virginia.
The first annual UALR Film Festival sponsored by the national broadcasting society will be happening this weekend at Market Street Cinema (1521 Merrill Drive, Little Rock AR). We will be showing 18 films by local filmmakers and having an awards ceremony for the competition portion of the festival.
Saturday, February 2nd from 5 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. will showcase the competition film entries and Sunday, February 3rd we will have the awards ceremony (presented by Craig O'Neil from Today's THV) and afterwards will be screenings of the non-competition pieces.
Admission is $2.00 per person or a non-perishable food item to be donated to charity. Proceeds from the Film Festival will be used to send members of the National Broadcasting Society to California for the National NBS Competition in which we have 12 entries (the most entries ever sent to competition by the UALR Mass Communications Department). If you don't have plans this weekend, I encourage you to attend.
Arkansas Take Action will hold its first ever event on December 11, Damien Echols' birthday. There will be a screening of highlights from the documentary 'Paradise Lost' as well as the press conference in which Echols' attorneys and forensic experts presented new DNA evidence recently filed in state and federal courts. This data definitively proves the West Memphis Three are innocent and their unjust convictions must be overturned, now. Following the screenings will be a Q&A with members of Arkansas Take Action.
