Seaside Riot formed in early 2006. Learning their craft (as the saying goes), at an Irish-themed pub for a bounty of snake bite and black, they fashioned a sound not all too unsatisfying and soon many flocked to see the boys play every week. Deciding very much that this band lark was for them, it wasn't long before they left college and got jobs up roofs and selling icecreams, all the while day dreaming of what had been and what was yet to come.
After a summer spent gigging and rehearsing, they bagged themselves a slot at Cumbria's finest festival, Kendal Calling, headlined that year by a band called Dirty Pretty Things. Needless to say, they had a great time frolicking amongst the tents and the chants of "SEA SEA SEASIDE RIOT!" rang long into the night. Only two months later, the boys were asked to feature on the soundtrack to an independant Brit-flick entitled The Pool, directed by Basic Instinct star David Morrisey. They look forward to being paid.
Throughout the poor poor month of November, aided by the lovely people at Buff Bang Pow, they hauled their gear around the fair city of Manchester, plugging in and playing wherever would have them. Armed with little more than their instruments, a framed portrait of Phil Daniels and a Birthday cake to say thanks, the boys would retire to Manchester Jon's student accommodation, bringing with them a whole host of spotlight oddities and lovelies to while away the evening together. Even when, one drizzly Manchester night, the nasty people at Central Travel Lodge made their friends temporarily without shelter, his door was open to them and the boys were thankful, much to the scorn of his splendid flatmates. Thankyou Jon.
And so it was, the boys stumbled into the New Year. With a whole host of scene-bands currently taking a watered-down Libertines' aesthetic into the mainstream, Seaside Riot are a group without a gimmick or a wombat in sight. Fueled by a love of The Smiths, Motown and Reggae, this is the band to look out for in 2008.
