SeaStars's Interests
|
| General | Leisurely hiking/cycling/kayaking, beach prowls, words (in good books and otherwise), parenting well, writing, life balance, gentle spirituality, gardening (I confess my anti-annual bias), digital photography and photoediting, American musicals, singing (badly) scores to American musicals whether or not a karaoke machine is visible, successful methods of vacuuming Cheerios crumbs from car upholstery, exploring all the adventures that didn't satiate me as a child (farm visits, juggling shows, outdoor concerts), partner dancing (I used to compete in ballroom), stained glass, use of parenthetical phrases, making lists. | | Music | Like an evening cup of tea: Mark Knopfler, "Cal"; Diana Krall, "All For You"; k.d. lang, "Ingenue."
Chocolate: Chenille Sisters.
Stew on a stark winter afternoon: Springsteen, "Nebraska."
PBJ (I'd forgotten how fun and tasty): the Captain and Tenille, "Muskrat Love"; Tom Petty, "American Girl" or "Refugee"; Weird Al Yankovic; Livingston Taylor (James's little bro); Meatloaf, "Bat Out of Hell."
Daily bagel in the car: KMTT's playlist.
Sugar buzz: AC/DC's "Shook Me All Night Long."
American-cheese sandwich: the Rogers-and-Hammerstein and Lerner-and-Lowe catalogues.
Steamed milk shared with one's demons: Dar Williams, "The Honesty Room" or "Mortal City"; Susan Werner, "Last of the Good Straight Girls."
Bag o' chips (not substantial, but perfect for the moment): Randy Travis, "Deeper Than the Holler" or "Forever and Ever, Amen." | | Movies | To swoon: Cary Grant; Gene Kelly.
To enjoy: "Return of the Secaucus Seven," "Big Chill," "Fast Times at Ridgmont High," "Real Genius."
Once upon a time I lived for the angst of "Badlands" or "American Beauty" or "Leaving Las Vegas," but these days I'd rather enjoy a happy ending: "Princess Bride," "When Harry Met Sally," "This is Spinal Tap," "A Mighty Wind," "Romancing the Stone."
"Hitchhiker's Guide" is on my to-watch list. | | Television | A classic: when the ketchup ooooozes out and meets the plate at last, all to Carly Simon's "Anticipation." Gives me shivers every time. (Seriously, I usually imbibe my information and junk, both, in book form.) | | Books | Harry Potter 7, of course. Also recently, I reread "The Velveteen Rabbit," gorged on chick-lit, browsed "Parenting" magazine (for the pictures! the pictures!), and am starting "A Framework for Understanding Poverty" by Ruby Payne.
Don't be fooled into thinking I read much nonfiction; a scan of the newspaper is usually it (and that's arguably fiction, too). I do read for an hour or so every day: kids' books galore; chick lit from "A Thousand Acres" to "Bridget Jones"; the occasional science fiction anthology (I adore Golden Age s.f. - Asimov/Clarke/Heinlein - but prefer the short fiction format for this genre, and mostly consider fantasy to be bad Westerns/fables).
I once became infatuated with a man's bookshelves: our separate loves of fiction and history overlapped in biographies, and we had a years'-long conversation sharing favorites. | | Heroes | Fred McFeely Rogers. |

About me:
Aug 08: This account is getting Phished a lot so I'm rarely using it now - I'll respond to mail, though.
I'm part of an amazing package of one-and-a-half blondes. If you see us at the park, I'm the taller one, laughing and falling in the water after a failed attempt to capture that perfect backlit photograph of my daredevil child wading. At any given time one or both of us is soaking wet, smeared with ice cream, mud-daubed and/or blackberried (and I don't mean the yuppie toy).
I'm fit and athletic (bike-commuting, ballroom dancing), creative (photography, writing), outdoorsy and content. Discussion of my profession is postponed for privacy. To make my living I wear a suit, write and try to make a difference.

Who I'd like to meet:
I really love balancing my cozy, adventurous family life with the independence of being single, but I still daydream about a nurturing, smart, curious, happy, broad-shouldered man with ready opinions on the crucial matters in life like serial commas, the inanity of planting annuals and how to live a conscientious life every day. He should also be willing to eat all of the icky licorice jelly beans and leave the coconut ones for me.
Since I have said right from the start that I'm a package deal, if you want to date someone who pretends her kid/s (or yours) don't exist, then I'm not for you. But if you've always envied family picnics on the beach, then ask me out.
My ex is entirely absent and I strongly prefer that yours is too - or at least that there's no drama. (And of course I will not date anyone still married.)
With time and trust I'd love to explore a committed, monogamous partnership that includes backrubs, dancing, snoeshowing/hiking, willing adaptability/compromise, intimacy and likely daily communication. My perfect relationship is one where our bond and respect for each other's happy independence is so great that we need not share closets, checkbooks or last names (at least not for a long, long, long time). Let's instead share decades of stories, explore new ideas, museums and trails. Let's laugh, find beauty and make magic.
