Sebastian Demrey is a name to remember, as his tireless enthusiasm and passion for combining music with a powerful message will leave you wanting more. With his thought-provoking lyrics and soft yet soaring melodies, he truly embodies the art of songwriting and is inspired by relationships, both his own and from those surrounding him.
2007 has been a notable year for Sebastian Demrey, taking home the Covenant Award for Pop/Contemporary Album of the Year (GMA Canada), along with the Independent Music Award for Contemporary Christian Album of the Year (USA & International). He was also 1st runner-up in the Artist Ovation competition (USA), and received a nomination in the Toronto Independent Music Awards. His support from radio has no doubt played a substantial role in these achievements. Sebastian has made his mark at national Canadian Christian radio, with 2 hit singles; with “Hold On To Me” (charting at 4,) and his 1 hit “He Put A Song In My Heart”. For Montreal-based Sebastian Demrey this has been phenomenal credit to his debut album Searching (2006); his first all-English album.
“Honestly, I jumped in the English industry with great ambition, but no expectations, simply because nobody knew who I was. I’m convinced that this project was led by God’s hand from the beginning, and seeing the response from both industry and fans along the way, confirms it. My greatest reward is when people come up to tell me that my songs made an impact on their lives…that is extremely rewarding for a Christian artist, and in the end, that’s what it’s all about. ”
2008 is already proving to be another great year, as he hits the stage across Canada with national touring. With a concert tour in Europe earlier this year, Sebastian has had 2 hit singles in France through the spring, “C’est Toi Que J’Aime” and “Living Without Your Love”. Another Europe tour is already in the works for 2009, hitting Switzerland, France and more.
Sebastian recently teamed up with CJYC Montreal to record a live bilingual (French/English) worship recording during the May 2008 youth conference. He takes a substantial role in this project as artist, arranger and producer. Also featured on the album are Jimmy Lahaie (Bonaventure) and Andréanne (2x Covenant Award winner). Only a week after recording the album, Be The Change was released in conjunction with Sebastian’s performance at YC Alberta. All proceeds of the album will support Quebec’s youth programs.
Before embarking on his solo career, Sebastian honed his craft producing albums for other artists through CIME Music (Maggie Blanchard, Tabitha Lemaire). Sebastian has additionally lent his talents to 30 studio projects, and embarked on 17 international tours, taking him to France, Belgium, the West Indies, USA, Tahiti, Reunion, and Madagascar.
For Sebastian, music has been a part of his life since he was a child, and later he studied classical and jazz at St-Laurent Music College in Montreal. Embraced by his local church, he previously served as their Music Director, and now continues to lead many worship services. Now, as the father of a young family, he ensures a balance of time spent with his family, and also takes time to share his music with the world.
