| Member Since | 7/30/2007 | | Band Website | goatfunk.com | | Band Members | Double bass on Sweet Surf, Convergence and Games Of Love is by Louis Thorne, who also plays electric guitar on Games. Flute on Sweet Surf is by Dan Ellis, with trombone by Mike Doris. On Convergence Hal Ritson plays Rhodes and monosynth, with Neil Waters on trumpet. Mike Clifford plays saxes and flute on Convergence and Games. A big thanks to these excellent musicians, and all the others I've worked or am working with. Everything else is me. | | Influences | Top of my heroes lists come Tom Waits & Joni Mitchell, and I do a lot of music elsewhere that has more obvious connections to that side of things, but it's people like James Brown, Santana, Steely Dan, Jobim, Joyce, Marcos Valle, Orlandivo, Chet Baker, Horace Silver, Grant Green, Donald Byrd, EW&F, Kool & The Gang, The Meters, Sly & The Family Stone, Funkadelic, Curtis Mayfield, Bill Withers, Mizzell Bros, Shuggie Otis, George Benson, Lewis Taylor, Pastorius & Weather Report, and so on, that are more obvious influences on the material up here. Of course any healthy mind loves all kindsa stuff: I dig on Zep, Cream, Hendrix, Beefheart, Jack Kerouac, Gary Snyder, Miles, Coltrane, Nick Drake, John Martyn, Bert Jansch, Thin Lizzy & Phil Lynott, Stereolab, High Llamas, Ginger Baker, John Bonham, Harvey Mason, James Gadson, Tony Williams, Steve Gadd, Billy Cobham, Michael Walden, Michael Shrieve, Stewart Copeland, Milton Banana (what a name!) and loads more... Non musically speaking you gotta love: David Attenborough, Bertrand Russell, Dawkins, Woody Allen, Jim Jarmusch, Wim Wenders, the Humanist movement... Kerouac, Snyder, even a bit of Ginsberg & Burroughs... and you need people like the Wax Poetics crew to keep your soul fed... 'nuff said! | | Sounds Like | Dunno... what do you think?

| About seb palmer |
|
Hi, I'm Seb Palmer, drummer and band leader of funky soul band Capricorn (please click here to visit our myspace page), based in Cambridge (UK), a teacher and student of drums, sometime illustrator, and writer for Drummer magazine. Graduating from chopsticks and Rena-Ware pan lids to my first drum kit at 13, there was usually music playing at home, and there were various instruments lying around the family domicile. Early influences include Thin Lizzy, Joni Mitchell, Led Zep and Cream. I journeyed through folk, rock, metal and much more before digging the magical seams of american jazz, funk and soul, picking up on the Beats, Tom Waits, Beefheart and other loons on the way, whilst simultaneously digging on maudlin UK hippies like Bert Jansch, Nick Drake, John Martyn, Pink Floyd etc, and even taking in the rootsy Americana of Ry Cooder, the wonderful Woodstock Mountains folk collective and the Dave Grisman Quintet, whilst revelling in the discovery of Miles, Monk, 'Trane and the like. Now I'm addicted to an all consuming passion for music, devouring recordings by all kinds of people (see influences). The music you'll hear here will change occasionally, and will range from funky soul to bossa and folk, and sometimes strange hybrid forms for which the MySpace genre listings have no equivalent titles or descriptions. Enjoy!
