Novels by Emma Donoghue (Irish lesbian writer), Sarah Waters, Elizabeth Berg

Heroes
Ani DiFranco, Michael Stipe, Catie Curtis, John Cameron Mitchell and Stephen trask, my friends, and anyone living to make this world a better place.
"Cos if you're not angry, you're just stupid, you don't care, how else can you react when you know something's so unfair, when the man of the hour can kill half the world in war, make them slaves to a super power and then let them die poor
I do it for the joy it brings, because I'm a joyful girl, because the world owes me nothing, and we owe eachother the world"
That would be my personal motto. I've thought about having Joyful Girl tattooed on my forearm, but for the sake of my future grandkids I might just make it my next license plate. I like to believe that everything happens for a reason and if you attempt to approach life with openness and positivity it will make a lot more sense. Not that I am always successful in this. "I don't always feel lucky, but I'm smart enough to try..." Another gem from Ani DiFranco. She is probably my favorite singer/songwriter, but since music is one of the things I live for I like many, many artists. My music taste mainly consists of alternative/folk/rock artists which most people have never heard of. The kind that would never be played on mainstream radio. That said, I listen to the X a lot at work and have begun to appreciate many new rock artists. My two main requirements for music I listen to are that it be intelligent and beautiful. So basically I can handle anything except pop crap that was written to make money rather than touch hearts and minds.
I hold movies to the same standard. I like films that make me think. One of my favorites is Magnolia for its tour-de-force look at the failings of human relationships. A good soundtrack is an added bonus. That's one of the main reasons Boys on the Side is my favorite movie of all time. That and Whoopi Goldberg and Mary-Louise Parker.
Drama is my favorite form of lit, second is poetry. I appreciate that both genres require the careful choice of words for symbolic meaning. The plot of a play and the verses of a poem seek to express something deeply human, utterly personal and at the same time universal. Otherwise I like lesbian and/or true-to-life fiction. I have always wanted to be a writer. You could say it's in my blood, passed down from generations, but I'm still working on the courage to get my ideas down on paper.
I was a techinal theatre major for two years at Sinclair in Dayton. I have always been fascinated with all that it takes to make a production happen. I used to say I'd do anything but acting, but I took an acting class my last quarter at Sinclair and enjoyed the creativity involved and how it took me out of myself.
I thought I was heading down the career path of becoming a theatrical writer/director and later transitioning to independent filmmaker, but my life took a few turns and I rediscovered my earlier passion of working for animal welfare. I have decided to save money to go back to school (I took a mental and physical health break back in February) to pursue animal science with a view to either becoming a vet or owning/operating a no-kill animal shelter.
I love animals, and sometimes even prefer their company to humans. When I was 13, I was given a puppy who became the most faithful friend and companion I have ever had. His name was Moses, and I was so upset, when he passed away in January, that I had his name tattooed on the back of my neck. For me, tattoos have to mean something. My first tattoo was a celtic cross on my upper right arm commemorating my celtic heritage and the 8 years I spent growing up in Ireland.
It's been almost a year since Moses died, and although I have two new puppies to play with, I still miss him very much. So I have pics of all three of them, plus my kitties in a slideshow above.
And thus ends my stream of consciousness rant for the moment...
Who I'd like to meet: Right now, the top of my list is John Cameron Mitchell and Stephen Trask, responsible for one of the coolest musical/movies ever made - Hedwig and the Angry Inch. Beyond that I'd love to meet a few of the musicians whose music speaks my heart. I am, so far, one degree of separation away from Ani DiFranco and Tori Amos, which is pretty cool. And meeting Janis Ian rocked my world.
As for all you regular myspace junkies out there browsing me: I am seeking inspiration. I want to meet people I can have adventures and all-night conversations with. A love of good music is a must. I like meeting new people and expanding my horizons, so add me if ya like. Better yet, send me a lil message telling me who you are first so I don't delete you with all the spam adds from bands trying to exponentially expand their friends list for popularity's sake. And please don't add me if you're never gonna talk to me. I am so tired of deleting people...
heyyyyyy congrats on being the new lucy haha. you ready for the poopoo thats gonna roll downhill your way? ;) by the way, anyone found that snake yet? :P
Congrats on all accounts...I will be working over the summer not to much planned Emily has some conferences that she is going to be going too. We may take a trip to Philly to see where we are going to be living in a year. I am living with my mom in Bellbrook for the summer just up the street from you. So, lets try and hang out even if its just for coffee or something...Congrats again! Keep up the good work...Heart!
Jade and I just got a brand new condo and we're moving in two weeks. So my vacation time will be spent moving. But maybe we can take a few days later in the summer to get up north. We're 20 mins from Charlotte NC right now.
I want to be a writer, and get into the real estate business. I hear you about your job, and running an animal shelter is a cool idea. I love helping people and animals. I have a really big heart, and I care deeply. So good luck, I wish you the best in life.
I work at a motel. Some days it's ok but other days I just want to walk out the door. I can't wait to get a different job. I think that's cool you work at Pet Smart. But every job comes with assholes. I always say. Well talk with you later. Jen.
Pretty much work. We just got new owners so the guy doesn't know shit. And the other employee's only work one to three days a week. So that leaves me to pick up the pieces. I'm looking for a different job, I'm sick of all the crap there anyways. Well hope things get better for you. Jen.
