In the summer of 2003, Minneapolis beckoned to Stephen Tietjen (lead singer/guitarist) from Texas, and Josh Tays (bassist) from Washington. Needing a backbone for what would be a rock band that would revolutionize the industry and lives of thousands of youth around America, they found strength in the prodigy drummer, Liam Conley, from St. Paul.
The alt rock powertrio set a course to blaze the trail of independent music with great success. Second Adam has defined a new style of rock and roll that is said to be fun, and danceable, while remaining aggressive, inspiring, and real. Amidst a sea of cookie cutter pop acts and formulaic rock bands, Second Adam stands out as a catalyst for change in the face and sound of rock and roll.
Second Adam has a passion for the hearts of youth. It is their desire to penetrate the barriers that our society and media have constructed around the soft parts of their souls, to offer hope and peace beyond all that this world has unfaithfully promised. Their approach is simple, but effective beyond belief: Come to this world with strong rock and roll that is captivating and with a love stronger than the self-hate living in our youth. It is this commitment to the fans and even foes of Second Adam that has won over the hearts of even the toughest critics time and time again.
Partnered with Life! Promotions, an organization that reaches more than 250,000 youth around the nation, each year, with a message of hope, love, and value, Second Adam has broken barriers with youth outside of the traditional church. They have found a vehicle that allows them to break the stigma put on the church by our culture. Having this experience gives Second Adam the tools necessary to reach those at traditional church venues that otherwise may not be reached, by traditional means.
Second Adam's new album "Answer to Apathy" was inspired by the disorientation to reality and state of zombie like confusion that our generation has been put under by an air-borne disease. Spread over the airwaves of our televisions, radios, and the internet. The world has tried to tell us over and over that we need to focus on ourselves that we need and deserve to live just a little better than the Joneses. We have heard and seen it so much that it has become reality in our minds and hearts. The reality of this suffering world has been masked by iPods, Hummers, Spring Breaks at exotic resorts that are within twenty miles of the greatest human despair known, and the constant barrage of media saying we are not good enough as we are. The hope of the marketers is to make our sight be no farther than the end of our arms, that they can corral our greed and to make it supercede our humanity.
We are not going to stand for it any longer. The "Answer to Apathy" is here, it lies within the content of the lyrics in this album and, even more than that, in the love that shatters the misconception of self. It is found in the God that even with all the wonders in the Universe He created, when He saw suffering from His children, instead of turning his back on them, He came as one of them and suffered along with them. He valued them more than Himself, even more than all the riches of the world, and empowered us to do the same. If we are truly made in His image it is up to us to end the suffering in this world, to share in the pain of our brothers and sisters, and to give up our overabundance for their sake. This disease will not be the epidemic that kills this generation. No we will be the ones that kill the virus of Apathy.
