Sounds Like
Not much else. The band have been compared to Massive Attack, Portishead, Sneaker Pimps, Mono etc. but with a much stronger emphasis on the lyrics and song writing.
On Thursday 9th August 2007 Second Person released their first studio recording in nearly three years. "The Elements" is their follow up to debut album "Chromatography". 750 fans of the band invested between $10 and $1800 helping Second Person become the first UK band to raise $50,000 to fund the album on Sellaband.com. This album is available on iTunes and Amazon as well as most good download sites.
Each song on this unique CD will have a video and these will combine together to form a short film also called "The Elements". The first of these videos has been featured on the front page of YouTube gaining well over 380,000 plays in the last few weeks.
The band will head back into the studio later in the year where they will record their next full length album entitled "Come to Dust". One of the tracks set to be on this album is "Gone Fishing". It has already had extensive play on MTV, has been used as part of Cobra Beer's sponsorship of ITV movies and received well over 250,000 plays on websites like Myspace, YouTube and Google Video. You may also have seen it as a featured video here on myspace. It is due for single release late 2008:
Here is our biography:
Second Person was formed in early 2002 and comprises singer/pianist Julia Johnson, producer/bassist Mark Maclaine and drummer Alvaro Lopez. This band brings together elements of Hip-Hop, Jazz, and Electronica fusing them with strong songwriting to form a unique sound that is Post Trip-Hop. This English three-piece contrast beautiful vocals with dark basslines, sublime piano riffs and powerful beats. Their emotive song writing style, killer hooks and distinctly lo-fi sound has lent itself perfectly to visual media and their music credits include a number of feature film scores as well as work for numerous international broadcasters and film companies. Second Person are as good live as they are recorded, capturing the beauty and emotion of their songs, although not losing the complex sound-scapes and space that have defined their sound.
Thanks to a website called Sellaband.com, around 750 of Second Person's fans recently helped the band raise $50,000 to record a new album. By buying shares or "parts" in the next album they helped to finance it - SP are the first UK band to have raised money this way on the site. This is a completely different way of funding music and provides bands a way to "level the playing field" with more established acts. The band is set to release this album "The Elements" on 9th August on SellABand.com where believers can download it and will receive a limited edition CD for free. It is possible for these believers to sell these CDs on the website - so people who missed out on "believing" should still be able to buy copies. This unique way of working, combined with being used as part of Cobra Beer's sponsorship of ITV (UK) movies and MTV playing their "Gone Fishing" video, has led to a great deal of interest in the band.
On the 16th August Second Person performed a live show at the world-famous Paradiso in Amsterdam (for the second time) to fans who bought parts in the new album. You can see it here: http://www.fabchannel.com/second_person_2007
Despite the band being in the studio they are currently working on a set of music videos for both their second and third albums. "The Elements" album/EP will have five videos that will run the entire length of the EP and link together to form one short film. We have just had confirmation that the first of these videos has been playlisted by MTV UK and are awaiting on a response for the rest of Europe. The next full length studio album (under the working title of "Come to Dust") will be released in early 2008 and will also have a music video for each song. Currently 8 of these videos are either in production or have been completed - two of these you can see on YouTube.com and Google video if you search for "Second Person".
The band are working with some amazing directors and animators: including a few who have directed videos for Gnarles Barkley, Radiohead and many other well known bands.
The last 3 tracks on our profile are from the debut album "Chromatography". To buy the album search on Second Person on iTunes, Napster or any major download site. Currently CDs of this album are sold out but you can place pre-orders for a repressing we're doing soon on:
