A NOTE REGARDING SECOND SUNDAYS ARTIST BOOKINGS: (from Danielle Gasparro, series creator, curator and host)
I would like first to express my gratitude to those kind souls who have taken an interest in the series and inquired as to whether I am accepting submissions for guest artists. Such requests have been increasing in number over the past year, and I appreciate this as a reflection of the series' success. That being said, it is becoming a challenge to respond to every request in a timely manner. So...I thought it best to include some insight and information on this topic.
Second Sundays, which began as a book idea about five years ago, has actually been a long time in the making. It is a passionate endeavor that is very close to my heart, both personally and creatively. In developing the format for the series, I've also developed a deep connection to my dual-role, as both it's curator and host.
Although I do not aim to "formally" accept submissions for the series, I am of course eternally interested in being turned on to new artists, and I value the fact that some may, in turn, represent what I hope to illuminate and honor, overall. If you are an artist, or if you represent someone and would like to introduce me to their music, please feel free to email me anytime, through myspace. While I cannot guarantee a response to each introduction, I do consider each one with great appreciation and respect.
Over the past ten years, I have lived my life as a singer-songwriter in New York City, and so, have been a part of a diverse, inspired and ever-growing community of artists. That experience, combined with my travel throughout the U.S. and abroad, has allowed me the great fortune of uncovering an extensive roster of potential guests for the series. This roster will undoubtedly evolve, but in its current state, it would in fact allow for series bookings all the way through 2010.
Again, all my thanks to everyone for your interest in the series, and for your support. I hope that you will continue to be a part of the magic as it takes place live each month at Rockwood or, if you can't make it down, that you'll do so via the audio archives.
I value your trust in me as your host and curator, and I look forward to bringing you closer to artists whose music, I believe, will continue to prove me worthy of it.
Warmly, danielle
Influences
Alan Lomax folklorist and musicologist "The first recording we took on our new portable equipment was of the state's prisoner, Lead Belly, singing Irene Goodnight. We were powerfully impressed by his panther-like grace and his extraordinary good looks: his already snow-white hair set off the aquiline features and the proudly gazing eyes inherited from his African and Cherokee Indian ancestors. We were amazed by his mastery of his great, green-painted twelve string guitar, but we were deeply moved by the flawless tenor voice which rang across the green cotton fields like a big sweet-toned trumpet." from The Folk Songs of North America

The Detailed Skinny_________________
Second Sundays at Rockwood Music Hall is a live monthly interview series which illuminates and celebrates the songs, stories and speculations of some of the most vital artists within today's performing songwriter community. The interviews include candid, thoughtful dialogues on each artist's journey both professionally and personally, all the while offering firsthand insights into their musical mind's eye.
Hosted with a refreshing blend of intellect and humor by New York City based singer-songwriter Danielle Gasparro, the dynamic interviews also address the subject of what is required to to live in the world today as someone who chooses to not only follow their musical bliss, but perhaps even try to make a buck at it. The topical thread of what it means to stay committed to such a choice, despite the inherent invitation of its unique logistical and emotional challenges, is given an intriguing, personal touch with each artist's story. As a whole, the interviews aim to not just entertain and enlighten, but to inspire.
A performance by the artist is also incorporated into the event. Each interview is complemented by song throughout, with a few choice tunes selected to bring the evening to a musical close.

*The artist's favorite drink will be offered as a special: by one/get one free! *Prior to the interview, the featured artist will have been asked to select 15-20 recorded songs that mean a lot to them, without disclosing why.
