Member Since10/29/2007
Band Websitealiengirlrecords.com
Band Membersmembres du groupe lately are Vanessa "Ptarmigan" Hanson and Colleen Costello (who have just started a great new backroads country band named Antler), Michelle Breslin and Steve Keeping other secret japanese girlfriends have been Dave Newfeld, Leanne Davies, Emmit Rogan, Alastair MacLeod, Jeff Peers, Dave Rodgers, Robyn Carrigan, Adam Rosen, a small Baptist choir, somebody claiming to be the ghost of Frank Zappa but probably is not, and Brandine the cat, and you.
InfluencesXTC. Bob Pollard. The friendship of Li Po and Tu Fu.
Sounds Likewe sound an awful lot like this band: "Lead by Doc Pickles, co-founder of Toronto's Wavelength music series, Your Band Sucks are a playful, quirky and melodic band who toy with as many instruments as possible: organ, electric drums, accordion, clarinet and keyboards all make appearances on tracks. With a lo-fi production approach and an emphasis on vocals, they're comparable to the Russian Futurists or the ironic lyrical stylings of Ben Folds. With tracks like "Teach Your Pets To Smoke", and songs about sports networks, they're funny too." -- Kate Robertson, the Torontoist.

   About Secret Japanese Girlfriend
Doc Pickles was a competitive bagpiper and litzine poet with an abiding interest in Joseph Campbell and Marshall Macluhan in 1995 when he set his poems to music using a Radio Shack karaoke and a toy casio. Doc fronted punkpoppers Mason Hornet in the nineties, helped to create Wavelength and thrills in making honest music with people he likes. Secret Japanese Girlfriend is what happens when Doc makes music for you with his friends, ranting and raving at a world out of order.

That was a great set at The Horseshoe. This is eclectic music that remains true to an artistic direction. An avant-garde style that see's Doc Pickles fleshing-out impassioned tales, accompanied by a revived Emmit Rogan. An acquired taste to some, but this a unique vision where every note counts. And where every lyric has meaning. A starry-eyed surrealist that evokes that joy of performing. Always endearing.

Spread your wings and fly. A quaint stream of lyrical consciousness, poignant and endearing music to glorious effect. Daring to make an artistic statement, infused by that joy of performing.

Moshing at Wavelength. Few and far between, but oh how it feels like a jolt of hardcore-adrenaline when it hits. Great job putting that line-up together.

Hey thanks for the shout out yo... sorry I don't usually go into the old school urban slang so early, but I was nervous.

Love from Sao Paulo... also not Japan...........................

Although they do have the largest population of Japanese people living outside of Japan... they even have their own neighbourhood called "Liberdad" and you can get some nice pastries there in the morning. Lots of love to you in Toronto... wish we were there.

How's it going, fellow MySpace-ian? In case you missed my bulletin, I just wanted to let you know that my album, "Venus Motel" is now out, and it's playing on my profile! You can listen to the first half now, and the second half beginning in early July. Also, within the next couple of weeks, you will be able to purchase the CD by clicking the link to CD Baby. So come on by, say hi, listen to some tunes, and tell me what you think; I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

There's currently an ad for a Toronto t-shirt company that's, by sheer coincidence, is displaying the previous name of the band. Rekindling that spirit of original band names.

Please check my band Sharing Night:

http://www.myspace.com/sharingnight

Comment back and let me know if you like it or not...Even if you don’t like it, please just let me know and give me your honest opinion/feedback.

Also, I am trying to get a gig (anywhere) and haven’t been successful yet. If you know of any club near where you live or have connections to one (Especially in Chicago) please help me out. So far I have only been able to perform at a weekly open mic night and it is only 3 songs per time so it’s not like a real showcase, which is something I would like to try to do next.

Thanks for your time…
