What does passion sound like? Not romantic posing or run of the mill innuendo but true, gut wrenching, living to die for living, passion! The San Francisco Bay Area's Seed mulls this over with each note that is ripped from their bodies, each eruption of sonic light, searching for the answer to that very question.
Since 2001, Seed has been honing their unique blend of emotionally driven alternative rock and gospel. Venues in the Bay Area, Los Angeles and Nashville have played host to the band over the years as have broadcast and Internet radio stations across the U.S. and Europe. In addition to concert venues, Seed has grown up playing Bay Area recovery events, juvenile halls and homeless shelters. It has often been in these settings where the band has been most formed and affected. "Playing our music to encourage people going through really hard times has been the most humbling thing we'll ever do. Coming away from those gigs after spending time with the folks, hearing their stories, sensing their hope and sharing their trials, continually points us back to examining the human condition and the miraculous intersection it has with the divine." says vocalist, Chris McCooey.
Along with McCooey, Seed is Joel Tacorda (bass), KC Lapoint (guitars), Keith Greene (drums) and Josh Ong (keys). They are currently working on their third independent release titled "Just a Breath Away". The songs on the new release are intensely concerned with the very intersection between the human condition and the divine McCooey mentioned. Themes of sacrifice, commitment, forgiveness and redemption pervade the set, beginning at very human origins and resolving into continually ascending overtures of love and hope. The first single from the release, "All you need is love", characterizes these themes in the simple questions of a weary dreamer:
She says "show me something true and real. Show me something I can feel. I want to believe in something more today. This thing I want I cannot see. I've only felt it in my dreams. It has to cost more than I can ever pay."..
Lyrically and musically Seed is at home with big questions and responses. From driving rock anthems to ska in fused emo, the band comfortably jets around the world in a tension made of their own desire and pure need to express truth and passion on their terms. In a place where beauty and cacophony collide, harmony and dissonance share space and screams and whispers search for love, Seed is responding with the sound of passion.
"All you need is love. But love must be sincere" -
